What do you do with your right foot?

When using cruise control.....what do you do with your right foot? I feel that my foot needs to remain near the pedals to get to the brake...but there's nowhere obvious to rest it without touching the accelerator.

This may sound daft, but on really long motorway (or more specifically autoroute) drives, I wear a pair of those beach shoes....they have great traction, very comfortable, plus they let me actually slide my size 11s between the pedals and rest on the bulkhead behind....and I periodically practice whipping both feet out quick to get back on the pedals.

Providing you aren't in close traffic it worlks just great.

The same thing you do with your left one, bend your knee and pull it back a bit. I drive for days in cruise and don't like putting my foot under the brake so that's what I do.

Stretch back and let it join your left foot on the dashboard.

Dont laugh. I have a buddy who drove his Willys WW2 Jeep down the motorway with cruise (hand throttle to the carb) no doors, screen folded down and feet on the flat screen. Dangerous, stupid and all that but looked outrageously funny :driving:

Just tilt my knee and rest it on it's side a bit half way between throttle/brake and back maybe 3 inches.

If it's busier, or I think I might need to brake, then I just rest it gently on the throttle, or if I really think I might need to brake, I hover it up in the middle ready.

I guess in LHD cars, they get a foot rest for the right foot, but then their left is left dangling around... probably better for cruise control I suppose, especially on an automatic?

Mine is always hovering in readiness to show porsche/tt/nissan/mercedes drivers the tue meaning of acceleration.

The Left Hand Drive Cars have a foot rest on the left side for the clutch foot. The issue of what to do with the right foot when using cruise control is the same...I solve it the same way you do except on the LHD I rest my right knee against the centre console when I pull my right foot back off the gas pedal.

Ah ok, that makes sense then. I guess resting your right leg against the transmission tunnel is maybe more comfortable then :)

I find I can rest my right foot on the throttle a bit, but you can't put ALL your weight on it otherwise it pushes it down.

Ya, the tunnel is very comfortable for knee resting. Try resting your left knee there to imagine. I never thought about the left foot rest when I drove in the UK, it's just there. The only thing that bugged me was having the rear view mirror on my left rather than my right...I just never got used to that.
