What do we think about the pricing?

https://www.gumtree.com/p/bmw/bmw-z4-convertible-2003-manual-2979-cc-2-doors/1395386290

I was going to look at the car just before Christmas as he had it up for £8k, but he said he didn't want to sell it and he wouldn't take a penny less then £8k (which is fair enough) I didn't think it was worth the money, regardless of mileage (just my opinion) as its not a sport and is still a 2003 model.

Top heavy ,but its his car.
I picked up an excellent cond' fsh 54 plate inc unmarked hard top 33k mls for £5900,june 19.
Sold the HT for £800 ,so car stands me at £5100.
Prices seem to have moved up ,?
But mines auto ,

phew that is strong money. but then again, its really low miles.

if you're buying it to keep in a shed for 20 years in the hopes that it might go up in value, this is probably the one to go for. However, if you're actually planning on driving it, you'll be better off getting one with double or even treble the mileage, for half the price.

i think hes going to be waiting a while to sell at that price, early Z4s just arent rare enough to warrant that that asking price IMO.

Yeah that's my general thought process, he lowered the price last month then told me he didn't want to sell it, now he has it back up at full whack. It's his car, as said, so he can do what he wants with it, I just thought it was being a bit greedy. It does sound like it's in amazing condition, kept in a garage, only taken out at summer blah blah blah, but still.....

Thats drastically more than I paid for my 07 3.0Si with 46k on it 2 months ago.

I mean, it does look immaculate. And the silly mileage warrants a silly price. But it's not a rare model, not a rare colour, and for 'normal' mileage and condition...it would be £4.5k. And I'd argue satnav has the opposite effect on it's value, because it was dated when it was new, let alone now.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay though, of course.

At least £2k overpriced and maybe even £3k, £4k or £5k overpriced. It's an 18 year old car.

A low miler car that's hardly used like that one might give a new owner as many headaches as a regularly used car.

Would expect something like this to go for £6k... At least that's what I would pay for it!!

Its their car at the end of the day, they're probably just seeing if anyone bites. If they aren't in any rush to sell it, it may end up going for around £8k in a few months time though...

My 2004 model, in immaculate condition, with 27K on the clock was a lot less than this 4 years ago (now on 33K) . I don't suppose we will ever find out what it goes it for but quite encouraging to see good examples commanding decent asking prices. Maybe they will start to appreciate a little now from now on?

Any car is worth what someone wants to pay for it but I think the seller is being overly optimistic on getting £8500 for a basic spec Z4 in a pretty common colour and interior. It does have parking sensors though so maybe I'm wrong!

If anyone on here is thinking of buying this as a future investment then I have some magic beans for sale just PM me for details.

 I'll take some :D

I think he could do with a brush up on his grammar. A comma or a full stop wouldn’t go amiss.
Regardless of mileage, I’d also say it’s overpriced but if he’s in no rush to sell then he could stick it on at whatever.

I bought an immaculate 2003 last year with 94k on the clock for £3.5k and she purrs like kitten so don’t be put off by a good well looked after higher mileage zed.

Just a little update,

The chap text me to say that he is putting the car back up for sale now the MOT has just been done and would I still be interested.

I replied saying thank you but he's asking too much for the car, and good luck with the sale.

He came back with 'will sell for £7500'...........I declined!

The search still continues :driving:

Keep watching it as it'll probably still be for sale around Easter when there'll be a lot more for sale so the price might come down further.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, he’s not going to get anywhere near what he wants. It’s not a si which I’m hoping to find 😊

I think he’s more likely to get silly money in the summer. Prices go up not down and someone with poor research ability will jump on it, literally blinded by the warm weather and visions of coast roads 😀

Although given the past year with the whole Covid shambles, people on furlough and others losing their jobs it could be a buyers market this year.

It’s strong money, I watch the market on these. In the past year as an example I have seen a 2005 3.0se with two owners and 35,000 miles sell for £4800, it needed a wheel Refurb but was ok overall, on this forum a 2009 3.0si with 21,000 miles went for £9000. In my eyes he would be doing well if he got £6000!!
