Think my rear differential is goosed.

I can send it off for a refurb for about £670 before fitting costs etc.

Having had a look around on Ebay can anyone recommend what diffs will fit this car as i've read its compatible with quite a few non M cars diffs like the e46 etc?

Trust me if you heard it you’d agree, it’s horrific. The garage seem to think maybe a bearing had collapsed and what ever has gone into the diff has done some damage. Can’t disagree considering the way it sounds, either way it would need completely stripping down and rebuilding or replaced.

It depends on which gearbox that you have. mAccording to RealOem, if you have the Manual gearbox, then you are out of luck. The diff for a manual gearbox was only used in the 3.0 E86 at 3.46:1 ratio. If you have an Auto things are better, there are some E85 options and a 3 series alternative at a 3.64:1 ratio.

Had a new diff fitted today.

Got a recon off eBay for £675 and fitted for £117.

The old one now gets sent back to where I bought the new one and they strip that down and recon.

It’s odd driving the car without any diff noise which has progressively got worse over the year I’ve owned the car :o
