What could have caused these scratches?

I've just gone out to my car and noticed these scratches where the driver's wing meets the door just in front of the wing mirror.

The car is parked pretty much in the garden and my ring security camera is forever going off because of cats walking through the garden.

Could a cat have done this? The only other thing I can think of is that despite having washed the car several times, I have never noticed them!

probably a cat climbing onto the car for a snooze when the sun is shining, they seem to like a nice warm roof.

Agree probably cats, the problem is the smoother/slippery the paint finish the more likely likely they are to put their claws out for grip

That If I'm not mistaken is the mark from the hose from a pressure washer, I'm guessing you have/use one to wash the car??? The up and down squiggles are from the water inside oscillating and if you hold the hose of the washer when on full chat you will feel the vibration through your hand. They should polish out with a bit of work, maybe a DA job.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Maybe I'll hold off on shooting cats with a water pistol when they enter my garden

I do indeed. I guess that could be a possibility! I plan on doing a full paint correction on it at some point soon so hopefully, they all come out

I have some identical scratches and been asking myself the same question.

Mines appeared on offside rear quarter , I too thought it was possibly a cat but they are all centered on the same area and at random directions similar to yours.

the pressure washer could be a culprit but would a general home pressure washer have enough power to put scratches in the top coat?

This is definitely scratches from a pressure washer hose. As above, the hose picks up small pieces of grit from the wet ground and then gets dragged across the paint. You have to be very careful not to let the hose touch the paintwork.

Would agree with this. Not that our pressure washer has ever been near any of our cars.
