What colour for my 241 star spokes?

Hi Dave:
As mentioned, my white Zed came with silver 241s. I wanted to tone them down a bit by darkening the 'spokes' while still being able to see the 'star'.
My first attempt was to leave the 'star' silver, and darkening the spokes with Dupli-Color Shadow Chrome. Honestly the Shadow Chrome painted over the stock silver actually came out like a deep wine / purple colour. I wasn't about to retape 4 rims and just went with that when I saw how it came out.
Most Forum Members reserved comment, which I took to mean they didn't approve. I waited several years until some rim rash encouraged me to try again.

By this time I had obtained a set of 108's and after some great advice here, split and refurbed those. They have Michelin PSS' and I use them for motoring around town and day trips.
The 241's shod with Bridgestone run flats are used for touring / road trips.

After more experience with Dupli- Colour Wheel Paint, I decided on their medium colour which is called :
"CHWP10200 High Performance Graphite"
This paint is configured for wheels . It has a lot of metallic reflective properties, goes on smooth, and dries very hard.
I am extremely pleased with this product.

Hopefully you can see the metallic from the paint can cap.
That reflective quality visually improves the depth of the wheel.

Really helpful, thanks

Have you painted the whole wheel in the paint rather than highlight the star? Looks like that is the case, with the reflective paint bringing out the depth/structure of the spokes.

I painted the wheel all the same colour. The metallic in the pain reflects the light and exaggerates the various reliefs of the wheel.

Just seen those photo's and that looks a bit too dark to be shadow chrome!

There are a lot of variations in colour, so maybe that's just how they do it at that particular place.

I just took this photo of mine in the sun. This is shadow chrome.

Thats what I chose from the samples that sort of colour. I've since been back as I said I ain't happy,but, according to them what you have ^^^^ is what they call "FERRICK GREY" Spell check that one which they said is a BMW colour. When we went back into the shop I said "Shadow Chrome" so thats what I got FFS! Bearing in mind it cost £250 all in to have all 4 wheels refurbed (I can't knock the quality) I asked OK what would be the price just to respray them FERRICK FECKIN GREY???? - £250 all in "as we would have to start again!" :x

You're better off just leaving it then. If you're like me you'll kerb them in a few weeks anyway :lol: They do look nice, so maybe just forget about it until they need refurbishing again?

My colour isn't ferric grey, but it is similar (I just Googled it).

No 2 finishes are the same, according to the place I used. I can vouch for that as I had to get 1 refurbished as I caught it on a kerb, yet I could only get 2 from the same side done or the colour difference would be noticeable. If I put all 4 alloys side by side, 2 are slightly different than the other 2, but you never see both sides together anyway, so it doesn't matter to me.

if you want the colour a bit lighter, just let the eastern European car wash boys spray some of there magic acid on the wheels, they will soon go lighter.
