What colour for my 241 star spokes?

Hi guys

Interested in some forum views please. My coupe is specd with the rare 241 star spoke wheels. I originally specd these as I loved the look of the Z4 coupe concept car, and didn’t really take to the other options. However I subsequently found out that the concepts wheels were 19” so my 18”s never looked as good.

Anyway, there are some kerbing marks I want to get rid of so I’m thinking of a colour change. When looked at straight on, I’m not too keen on them but I really like the 3D profile of the wheels. I’m thinking either:

1. gloss black,
2. ferric grey 2 or
3. shadow chrome.

I have gloss black grille so that would be consistent for the first option, but think the other options might help accentuate the angles and curves on the spokes.

Interested in your views.

Wow, those wheels look amazing! Don't think I've seen that style before :thumbsup:
Not really any advice on the colour, but perhaps making them dark will lose some of the detail.
 
Agree, I think the black would lose the detail that makes these wheels so nice. I like them as they are actually!

Looks like shadow chrome type finish on the concept, makes them look better imo. With the black you'll lose the detail of the wheel
 
Go for a light shadow chrome finish.

Some finishes I've seen tend to be on the darker side, almost anthracite. I specifically asked for a lighter shade when I had mine refurbished. I think they used 2 silver top coats over a black Base.
 
Thanks for your input guys. Sounds like shadow chrome is the way to go. Is it a bit bling? Perhaps need to see an example in the flesh to see.

Ben - thanks for the tip re light chrome. I’ll check that out.

Would be great to make the most of these wheels given they are rare. I still look at csls etc and really like them but I want to stick with 18s for dynamic reasons and want to keep with SE springs with b6 dampers so keeping the wheel gap as a compromise for fast B road compliance, so realistically I’m never going to win aesthetic awards here!!!
 
I went for “shadow chrome” and picked the car up on Thursday. Gutted as my car now looks like a Barry Boy car!!! Questioned them but they said that’s their version of “shadow chrome” 😞
 
Nice to see another Zedster struggling with 241's.
I wasn't thrilled with the bright silver and decided to try to highlight the 'star' while shading out the recessive spokes.
My attempt using a shadow chrome was less than successful, but it was good enough.

Sorry to hear this mate. Can you post up a picture of your car with the new wheels? Would be good to see what it looks like. I am a little concerned about being too bling...!

Thanks bumpy. Really impressed by your work there! More skills than I in that department that’s for sure. Interesting idea you’ve got there with the two tone approach. Can see that the 241s lend themselves to this.

Did you not see any examples of their finishes before getting it done? The place I use have refurbished wheels on display, so you can get an idea of what to expect.

I even specified I didn't want a dark finish, as I had seen so many different examples of 'shadow chrome'.

I love mine. They're not bling at all, they just look nice and glossy when the light hits them.

This refurb shop was the same as it had rims you could take outside to see them properly against your car. I took 3 out and straight away dismissed 2 options one being to much the same as the existing wheels and the other being too dark. I picked - to me - a shadow chrome. What I have got now is not shadow chrome IMHO!!!!! Will post a couple of pics today as I was laid up with The Lurgy all day yesterday so apologies for the delay.
