What colour for my 108's (refurb)

Hiya :)

I'm taking my Z4 to get the 108's refurbished this week :) I am leaning towards having the whole wheel in the same colour - similar to stock, maybe a little darker silver but with a higher shine perhaps (Think it was called Platinum over Black base). Machine polishing them doesn't seem to be a great idea from the companies I have spoken to, none of them will warrant the work as it is very hard to get the laquer to stick well.

They are going to split the rims, dip them to remove the paint and then blast them to remove the corrossion before a series of powercoating finishes are applied. This im told should be durable and will protect the wheels from future corrossion better.

Does anybody have any other suggestions or recommendations for colours/finishes, I did consider trying to get the outer part of the wheel finished in a brighter silver to mimick the polished look however it may just look wrong if the colours are similar - all one colour seems a safer bet :?

Im only a fan of dark wheels if the car is white, red, yellow, orange or that sort of crayon blue that Audis come in.... In other words a real contrast between wheels and car.

So a vote for standard finish from me. :)

Interesting questions. You know my wheels and the colour combo used - Smoked chrome with polished lip, that I think looks stunning, but does tend to suit the Sterling Grey.

Downside of all the same colour is that it will flatten the split rim look of the 108's.

How about making the rim just a little darker and keep the inners OEM colour, just for a contrast, or a chrome efect paint on the lip to look like it's polished.

Post a couple of pictures side on and I'm sure the guys can photoshop a few combos for you.

I have the exact same dilemma at the mo. I think I'm going to stick with a standard metallic silver. Going for a darker colour will make the wheels look smaller. The best thing about the 108's is how big they look in stock colour, although it is tempting to have a change.
I agree with Dreamer, dark wheels only look good on white and yellow cars as they stand out.

What price have you been quoted out of interest. The best I can find for a really good quality finish is £434.00.

I have both a black set and a silver set for a silver car. I prefer the dark set personally, both below:

I like the black on your silver too. I know I bang on about customising, but a big chunck of it is about knowing what you are co-ordinating with what and the overall theme. In this instance the black wheels seem to work well with the interior, headlight and grilles creating a great effect.

Each to their on though

Perahps keep the wheel rim chrome and then lightly smoke colour the inner?

That would certainly be my choice on a silver car and certainly something I would consider should I decide to retain my wheels.

I think they would look awsome all the same colour 8)

Thanks for the suggestions guys

I don't feel so boring going with the safe option now

Update:

Had wheels refurbished (split, acid dipped, shot blasted and then powder coated) in platinum silver over a black base. To finish I bought some new center caps, these are the newer style without the grey edge and fill the hole fully with the propeller badge, £34 for 4  Could do with some swish valve caps now to finish them off.

Love the colour but unfortunately I have a few issues to go back and resolve regarding the workmanship and losing/damaging my security nut dust caps (the blemishes are mostly not noticable unless up close but has some imperfections in the finish).

Shiney 8)
