What car for £10k

I really like the vx220 yeah it has a V badge but it dont look like one.

As for mk2 TT we have a TDI and it brilliant! But it dose feel like its missing something it dose everything to well maybe?? And its quick but its definitely not fast in TDI flavor! And i think for a fast one your looking at TTS or TTRS and they will be out of budget. The back seat is usable for a 5'5" slim person withe and equally slim and height person in the front. We where using our as a 2+1 over the weekend and that's all it really can be. Or fold the seats down and its quite a big space.

How about a Megane 250 Cup? I think they're just sneaking towards the £10k mark now. 4 decent seats and a fantastic reputation for handling and steering feel.

Yeah, I thought about the fast Megane's but not really a car I have any feeling towards. When i see one i feel completely indifferent to it. I might go try one and see if i fall in love. However, I do sort of find myself think, would this be just as good and fair bit less

Cheers for the info on the TT Machine Monkey. I think i'll definitely have to try one. It would most certainly be a 2.0T and while not exactly that fast they do tune up well. The V6 model doesn't interest me as it's not much quicker than the 2.0 with a lot less tuning potential. It would only be the kids that would be going in the back and their both small anyway (2 and 3 years old). Never thought about the seat fold down potential. probably big enough for a bike or a couple of snowboards with the seats down.

Oh yeah, I forgot.

Monaro (or however you spell it)
I rather fancy one of those I have to admit. The old gits on Top Gear loved it if i remember correctly. Not many about though so tricky to get a drive of one without travelling hundreds of miles only to potentially realise it's horrendous.

Inkey$. I'd love a ZMC like yours but they are out of budget now. It's really annoying because I keep reading old threads on ph where people are buying them for like £9k. DAMN MY POOR TIMING :headbang:

The trick is not to look at the old threads! Drives you nuts! I only just got on the MC bus in time and have spent a bit since sorting her out to my preferred spec, but I wouldnt have it any other way :D

From your shortlist so far I like the sound of the Esprit :driving:

I know you said you werent that turned on by it .. but for 10k it is a bargain... 335i Vert, 2+2, fast and a fun weekend car to boot. Not bad to drive either.

I am actually looking at a 125d!!

That is annoying. You could have had mine a fair bit less than you will get one from a dealer. Unless you are buying new of course.

Cracking cars though. Did 19k miles in mine in just over a year and it didn't miss a beat. It's a car that doesn't feel that fast but in sport mode the engine is really responsive even at the top end, it's very undiesel like. It's car that can be enjoyed on a proper road and still return mid 40s. Over the duration mine returned 52mpg and I even ran a box on it for a while that gave it just shy of 280bhp and enough torque to spin the earth off it's axis. My only criticism of the car was the steering. And that's not a fault of that car, all the latest BMWs have terrible numb steering.

Yes, very. I only began thinking about it last week. Depending on condition etc. I would have been up for a swap. :(

Thats a bargain at that price. Roof down, super quick and with a growl that will put a smile on even the most sourfaced of people. And if you were unlucky to get one with wastegate issues don't panic. They're tend to be non-catastrophic and the rattle will only annoy and if it does matter then get yourself a private warranty and enjoy. My 335i was the best Q Car I ever owned :driving:

Ive been having the same debacle for last 3 weeks & have searched endless forum,s & car pages .
Here,s my thoughts oin a mix of possibles i had on my radar ?
2007 Golf R32 / Understated, great torque & tone plus the right one is depreciation proof
2007 3.0si Z4Coupe / Rare on the roads but seemingly plentiful in the ads :? look terrific ,plenty of kit , cheap to run & again if bought well should hold money even if tricky to sell on
E46 M3 / its not about the car its more about "which" car , its a dartboard scenario but do the homework & legwork & i still believe £6k will land a decent example sub 100k & allow a £1500 spend before you start heading into negative equity
Mk2 TT / right colour, right wheel,s ,right spec look good & cheap as chips , the 2.0Tfsi can be had for sub £7k 80k 2007 but for a reason ? Too many for sale & likely to drop to nearer £5k before they bottom out
087 Boxster / get a decent 60k 2005/6 2.7 for £9k which is a bargain but soft top & 2 seater not really where i wanted to be  (there is a nice one on this forum for sale right now )
Mercedes 350 SLK / 06/07,s on 70k for £7-£8k seem,s crazy but for a reason , loads for sale & likely to fall further , again not wanting open top motoring & maybe the image is a little too feminine ?
leading to the purchase i collected today :P Alfa Brera / maybe not the fastest but certainly oozes style & not seen on every car park
i know you were scared by depreciation as i was hence why i bought at the bottom end although the car doesn,t reflect the price in my eyes

Do you have some kind of bigger plan going on Mr wilks? Thought I read a reference to trading up to an m or words to that effect.

Trying to profit, flat or even extremely slow depreciation would be great. I did a quick mental tot up of what I've lost on cars in the last 3 years and the figure was terrifying.

Regarding the r32. I'm not keen on it for the same reason as I don't rate the engine in the TT. The equivalent gti is always better and more tuneable. Harris wrote a good piece on this, it didn't go down well with the vw fanboys on pH. Over 600 comments.

I had a similar dilemma recently.
Though I loved the Z4 I was in need of a little bit more room.
After a quick search picked up a 645ci.
More of a 2+2 than a proper 4 seater,333Bhp,all the toys as standard and a stunning V8 soundtrack.
Currently loving it.21 Mpg isn't much worse than the 2.5 Z4.
Oh and only an extra £16 a year increase on the insurance for a year.
:driving:

If I'm not mistaken an R35 NEESAN gtr has a back seat right? :poke: and for fun enjoy that launch control!
Never mind a used one here in the states is around 65k  a nice option though.

A M is a box to tick at some point but maybe not now ? I,ve been enjoying a sabatical from work the last 2 months & may extend it so don,t want to put a noose round my neck with too much cash in the garage  i know where they are when i want one

Ps / the 645ci as BigBadCol suggests should not be ruled out , without question the best all rounder sub £10k ive ever owned although on a 54 plate it was an early one so did hit the wallet hard with repairs

Ah a sabbatical. I wish. A lunch break would be a bloody start for me. I just figured you had some kind of plan due to changing cars more often than I change my socks at the moment.

I do like the 6 series but see it more as a luxo barge/gt cruiser type of car rather than a hoon machine. Am I wrong?
