What Car E85/E86

Ah yes, those are M-sport seats which is good. I’m not liking the look of the headlight much though, doesn’t seem quite as well cared for as he makes out.

The photos are pretty pish really, hard to see what the car really is like and what extras it has.

Looks a good car but only 40k miles and 5 owners. Find that a bit hard to believe but not impossible. Check history very carefully as car might have been clocked.
Quite common with sports cars as they are often owned for a few years, used for weekends / sunny Only.

My car had 4 previous owners and only 25,000 miles when I bought it. Never missed a beat :driving:

Yes, looks like there are a load of dead flies in the indicators

What do you guys think to this one?

It looks like a good low mileage car in need of TLC so I'd check the service history very carefully. The seller couldn't be arsed to clean it properly, it has a short MOT, needs a service, brakes and bumper painting. Plenty of ammo for chipping the price

It's a personal choice but one mans rare colour is most peoples undesirable colour, anybody could have ordered one but few people did.

The MOT history appears to confirm the mileage. I agree that it looks as though it would benefit from some TLC. As already said, the service history will be important.

The photos are poor, but the paintwork looks very matt.

t>Hello I’m new here
Apologies if this has been asked before but I have about £6500 to buy a decent Z4 with I would like a manual but don’t know if I should go for an e85 or e86
I would like 50-75 k miles and heated seats
I think the 3.0 sounds Awsome but I don’t know if I should be discounting the smaller engines
Like I said total newb
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Steve</t>
as others have said, £6500 will buy you a 100,000+ mile coupe, so best go for a roadster if you're concerned about mileage

Matt looking paint only helps the OP get a better deal!

Montego Blue isn't that rare, but does look better when it's shiny (which mine isn't too often).

Be flexible, buy on condition and be willing to accept either engine. That's the sensible position to take.

That said, i was in a similar position at the start of last year. I had around £6k for a convertible (fine weather weekend car only). I was set on a 3 Litre and ignored the smaller engines, whats the point buying old, cheap lower spec cars? I ended up with an early, fully loadrd E85 with 74K - £2k under budget and its been faultless really.
The 3L m54 is a lovely engine.

Ok so I think the 6.5k budget for a 3.0si is a bit low so which would be best out of a 2.5si or a 3.0i?

Tough choice - the 2.5Si had 218 bhp, and 3.0i has 231 bhp so not a huge difference on paper.

I recently sold a 325ti (same M54 engine as a pre-facelift 2.5i) and replaced it with an E91 325i (same N52 engine as the 2.5Si). The N52 definitely gets more urgent as the revs get past 4,000, but the M54 possibly pulled a bit better at lower revs.

Ideally you probably want to try both, but I don't think you'd be disappointed with either.

Ultimately your decision may be influenced by the cars that are available in terms of condition, history and specification within the area you are willing to travel.

Good luck anyway.

Good news guys and girls I have just managed to up the budget to 8k

Great - I just pointed another newbie towards this one on Autotrader.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201803224825767?transmission=Manual&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&model=Z4&postcode=gu470za&sort=sponsored&advertising-location=at_cars&body-type=Coupe&make=BMW&radius=1500&page=1

It's a bit over your ideal mileage, but well within your new budget and has the heated seats you want (although not much else)!

And IMO it's in the best Z4C colour combination!

Good luck with the search.
