Had it eight years. Never once in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance! The first year, '84 had some issues. By '86 they had fixed the issues and improved the suspension. It was a good car but by then the reputation overshadowed the good attributes.
Hehe - take one 60's period VW bus, replace your wood paneling with Indian tapestry (use it for drapes as well), also rip out the rear seats and make a box to match the height of the engine platform, add padding and carpet to make large bed out of the back, install speakers in the front of the front of the box (connected to a Muntz 8-track) and you have my late 60's hippie van. I had a metal peace sign fabricated to take the place of the VW logo on the front and a giant decal of the ZigZag man up on the overhead vent system :drinkwine:

TT, I decided, stood for total tedium and I could not get away from the hairdresser jibes. Even working at a (nuclear) power station there were plenty of these.
A TT goes where you point it and is a reasonably quick machine, but on rough roads (plenty of these in Suffolk) it was horrible, bump steer and not good at soaking up the bumps. And no RFTs to blame. The Z4 is not special, but its on RFTs and still better than the TT. Perhaps if it had been the TTR and not the TTC....
The M3 (F306 KAA, an '88 car) was 13 years old (11 with me) when I sold it, had done something like 65k miles in total and never lacked for anything (other than being driven). Somebody got a bargain due to my boredom.
