What cable and where to buy from for iPod through headunit?

I have the Business headunit in my car with no auxiliary cable and I am looking to buy a cable so I can play my iPod through it. From the people who have done this, where is the best/cheapest place to buy the cable that would do this job? Thanks
 
I bought the Aux cable from the stealers not the cheapest, around the £40 mark but it works,and fitted in 30mins but that depends on how yielding the centre vents are.The ipod is not controllable via the headunit but just stick the ipod on shuffle and happy days :thumbsup:

Ok, thanks matey. Does it send the signal through the headphone output or the base connection at the bottom of the ipod? And can you control the iPod from scrolling the wheel yea?
 
It sends it through the H/phone socket so you will need a 3.5 jack to 3.5 jack lead picked mine up from ebay.
 
we bought a Dice unit through the tinternet for around £90, connects to the multi changer cables accessed through the boot. (just pull back the carpet. It took minutes to install. Gives full function through ther head unit. Best option for use with the business system. Would recommend it. :driving:

Thanks for the reply. So all Z4s have the multidisc changer cables installed the boot ready for someone to plug in a changer is what you are saying?#

Forgive me for sounding stupid but does your ipod then sit in the boot where you connect it up to the dice unit?
 
how much money do you wanna spend? you can get the parrot mki9200 for about 100-150 pounds including cables. It just plugs into the back of the head unit, it comes with a screen (optional) and a wireless remote. You can easily navigate your ipod and it charges it also! (connects via ipod/iphone dock)
 
Hope the OP doesn't mind me dropping in (apologies). Personally I don't want to clutter the dash with another screen, particularly if I use a cradle for the phone. Just looking for a direct connection that doesn't sacrifice sound quality. Maybe aux is all I need? Ease of installation would help as I'm no bomb disposal captain steadyhands...too much long term caffine (ab)use I think!
 
well the parrot mki9000 is the same, but without the screen, and you can control it from the MFSW.

probably not the best idea if you want to use the snap in cradle tho, as getting a cable from the head unit into the dash through the centre console to the rear storage area requires taking out the whole dash/center console/ panel's behind the seat, etc.

(I like to think of myself as a DIY enthusiast but i wouldn't even attempt wiring a cable through all that!!)

PS. have a look in the 'How to section' under audio, and you will find plenty of info about the benefits and issues with the AUX cable

I think all cables are pre installed. the instructions tell you which ones to use. The ipod cable we fed through to where the cd multichanger would go in the compartment between the seats. You get a lot of cable so you could if you are feeling keen feed it up to the glove compartment. The sound is really great and you can use the controls on the mfsw with it. It will allow up to 4 playlist. or browse artist, songs etc. :D

The problem with Parrots is they use there only internal amp to power the speakers, this would be a pain to wire into anything other then the standard 6 speaker setup.

You can make an aux input cable for less then £10.
 
the new dice silverline works with the iphone and charges them up same as new ipods. we use the ipod touch and new iphone. it also has an additional aux in.
 
for anyone using the dice, can you use the ipod controls on the actual ipod? or is its functions locked out when connected up to the headunit?
 
you can set it to use either. there is a set of toggle switches on the Dice unit to pre set it to lock the ipod or to set it to user choice. then depending if you lock your ipod before connecting or plug it in switched on. it does affect the function of the buttons on the head unit. and they send different controls depending on which you choose.
It took longer to work that out than it did to install it. :x We chose to lock it in the end. you can then troll through your playlist etc from the head/mfsw. It displays song, artist, playlist etc, although searching for a particulat artist is a bit slow in that mode :roll:

Not all parrots. I was worried about this as I have the 10 speaker carver setup. This parrot has an aux out which connects to the aux in port in the head unit, therefore using the BMW head unit to power the music!

Doofus - parrot supports unlimited playlists, and Bluetooth streaming. So no need to remove iPhone from pocket for music on short drives or phone calls
