What brand / spec is OE oil?

Wanting to buy some oil to top the car up if / when needed - it has full BMW history so I assume it's running whatever BMW spec as standard for the 3.0si?

Searched but there's 100s of search results, most of the recent ones referring to the E89 model.

BMW Longlife 01 I believe. Anything that conforms to that. Not sure what manufacturer BMW actually use though.

Cheers for that. From reading the manual it seems grades if 5w-30 or 5w40 are recommended?

Also on the oil filler cap it says BMW recommend Castrol - I have 7 litres of Castrol Edge 0w40 going spare from my R26 - which is the spec that OpieOils recommends and fulfils BMW Longlife 01 criteria - ideal?

Iirc bmw longlife 04 is the one you need.
