What brand of brake pads are you using?

Hi

I tend to use my 2.5si (2007) for club runs and some track days.

I want to get new brakes but have been put off my the cost and I tend to believe some knowledgeable people who say I don't drive in such a way that I will get a real advantage.

So instead I will replace the stock standard pads with something of quality instead. I think that should help although the car stops beautifully as it is.

So what pads do you recommend?

Cheers
Ryan

Well I cant actually give a proper recommendation as I'v not fitted them yet but just bought some yellowstuff front pads for mine, after reading quite a few online reviews they seemed to be the ones to go for without spending over £100, also got some dot 5.1 racing brake fluid which has a higher boiling point so hopefully no more brake fade for me

Yellowstuff are a reasonable pad. Used to run them on my E36 track car and it would do 40 minute sessions without any fade. Only time on the road i ever had a problem was say after a long motorway run, particularly if it was raining, as your coming down a slip road they didn't react AS quickly as road pads, but still quick enough to not be a problem.

Alternatively i think Pagid and Mintex do some decent pads, of which i have never had any experience.

I have mintex pads on mine, they don't seem too bad, my only annoyance is they create quite a bit of brake dust

Textar epads are great for low dust, know a couple of people using them on other cars & rave about them.

From what I read before I bought them the yellowstuff compound has improved quite a lot in recent years so they do not need warming up like they used to.

Anyhow getting them fitted tomorrow so I have enough time to bed them in properly before my European road trip, setting off on Saturday, will be gone for 10 days with plenty of high speed driving so can report back on them when I get back

Thanks! I am going to look out for Yellowstuff and Mintex here in Australia

It does sound like Yellowstuff is more for racing though, won't they not do well on a road when they are cold?

If you are concerned about the yellows being more race orientated then go for the redstuff which is a step back and mostly fast road orientated. Yellows will just hold up better on track which you said you were interested in. Likely you will cook reds on track after some hard laps on a hot day. I have used both yellow and red on the road with no issues.

I use Red Stuff but will be going to Yellow when they wear down

Never had any issues on track with Redstuff pads and 330mm Disc's, braided hoses and racing fluid upgrades

Just FYI this is from the EBC website regarding the latest yellowstuff compound

EBC yellows are ECE Brake safety tested which means they must work perfectly from cold at least as good or better than stock pads.

Mine are getting fitted this morning along with the CDV delete :)

I use Textar E-pads and find them great. They are low dust and any dust you do get, tends to be more silver than dark grey / black so your alloys stay looking clean.

I found a supplier of yellowstuff who has recommended Remsa pads eith frint slotted rotors.

Remsa is apparently a good European brand but I find little on them online.

Has anyone used them or even heard of them?

An update for you guys... I got the yellowstuffs fitted yesterday and there's definitely no noticeable drop off from cold seem about the same as the stock ones, obviously they are new so not pushed them yet but hoping once they are properly broken in it will be a lot better when I'm pushing them

same for me they came with the mtec package. Ive got mintex on the westy in 1144 guise and they also produce alot of dust.

I like the mintex 1144 pads as they work well from cold and when they are cold which is useful in the westy that is light maybe not so much of a problem in the Z

Never heard of them - seem to be a huge aftermarket/pattern part manufacturer originating in Spain.

Can't see any reference to anything they make for specific manufacturers though, so I assume it's all branded/packaged to customers wishes.

Personally without knowing what Remsa are like or having any tried and tested tales to review, i would not be spending my money. Especially considering the EBC's aren't even that expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Well, I'm happy with my EBC Bluestuffs - even after the source of my 50% discount retired.

Can't really justify paying up to 5x the price for Pagid RS pads* - although the Pagid RS29 (IIRC) I tried do have a better pedal feel & bite - but wear out VERY quickly on the front and produce lots of brake dust.

When (eventually) I get my Alcon calipers then I'm hoping to try one of the new Pagid 'endurance' pads to see if the £300 cost will give me a longer pad life.

* £280 per axle set, compared to £110 for EBC, plus the EBCs last twice as long as the Pagids.

I have been using EBC Yellowstuff pads and Turbogroove discs for over 3 years now. Very happy with them. Good for both road use and for the track days.
Looks nice too :)

I do like the little bit of yellow poking out from the calipers, I'd post a photo of mine, but my wheels are filthy and not cleaning them till the bedding in period is over as that produces a load more dust and cant be bothered cleaning then every day for a week or so
