What brake pads, fluid and lines?

Another, of a few, follow up threads from my track session last night. I was getting quite severe brake judder last night, but it started to ease off towards the end of the night. What causes this? Also, my pads and fluid aren't really up to the task on track so looking to replace the pads, fluid and get some braided lines. Any recommendations on what to go for. I had Ferrodo DS2500 in my last car and they were Okay. The car is primarily a road going, everyday car so it doesn't need to be a full out race pads, but something that will cope better with 10-15mins out on track.

Cheers :)

Judder is more likely to be pad deposits on the discs than the pads or fluid. New discs are the only real answer to that.

Re. pads I have had good results with Pagid RS 4-2 as a good compromise between road and track, though not in the MC to be fair.

I am currently using RS29 which seem very good, but perhaps overkill for your requirements.

Re. Fluid I use Motul RBF600, mainly because I have a whole case of it, but any of ATE Super, Motul RBF 600/660, or if you are feeling flush Castrol SRF will be fine. Though in truth pretty much any fresh fluid will be better than pretty much any old fluid.

Re. Brake lines, that won't help with judder, unless there is actually an issue with your existing brake lines, the only real advantage is longevity and perhaps a slightly firmer pedal feel. Goodrich braided lines or similar.

Yea I thought the judder may be down to pad deposits. The brakes are totally fine today and they were improving as the night went on so hopefully all is good there.

I know that judder has nothing to do with lines. I just want some braided lines as standard rubber lines are prone to expanding under heavy braking. I will have a look at the RS29's. I'd rather have something overkill and inadequate. Are you running them all round or just on the front?

The pads should be for CSLs yes. Keep in mind that Pagid RS29s need regular "exercise" otherwise they'll start squealing in daily driving. Have them too on my Stoptech big brake kit. They sometimes squeal but i regularly put them through their paces. The only other pads i've tried are Axxis ULT and Stoptech Street Performance which were both with just slightly more braking power but better endurance than the stock ones. Silent as well.

Brake lines, i previously had the Goodridge ones. They were OK, not much improvement really but they weren't expensive so I didn't mind.

Brake fluid I've used Endless RF650 which was brilliant but expensive and now use Motul RBF 660 which offers almost the same performance but is much cheaper.

I also run the pagid rs29 but in an AP brake kit and am happy with their performance. I never tried them in the OEM setup but did try the Pagid 4-2 but they also suffered from brake judder.

The best performing pad I ever used in the oem setup was a full set of carbone lorraines. They not only removed the existing uneven pad build up on the disks they then continued to work astonishingly. The only downside is they have no retaining pins on the back so rattle like crazy so you would need to swap them out for road use if you didnt want to listen to it all the time...

On the plus side probably cheaper than buying new disks if you just wanted to remove existing pad build up...

To be honest if these pads didn't rattle I would not have purchased a big brake kit. In the end it drive me crazy and I caved...

I run RS29s all round, but in a big brake kit, and my car is primarily a track car, so by definition they get a serious workout from time to time.

I have used a lot of different pads on previous cars - 911 and Elise - including Carbon Lorraine. CL are good, but I personally prefer the feel of Pagids. Also there have been a lot of reports of issues with CL pads breaking up, though I personally ever had any problems. Except with CL RC6, which were incredibly unbearably noisy. I would say the best pads for performance were Performance Friction PF97 but they were even noisier than the CL RC6 and I took them out after one day.

The new favourite wiith my GT3 owning mates are Endless, but at £850 for a set of fronts (I kid you not!) they are a bit rich for my taste.

Re. The brakes not juddering today that could be just down to you not using them as hard on the road. Though perhaps you managed to clean the deposits off.

EDIT - Nice double post from tapatalk...
