What Battery?

BMW recommended I fit a new battery when I had the oil changed in October. I have had a hunch it's on its way for a while. What Battery is best to go for these days or am I best just doing a like for like swap with an oem spec one?

Bosch Silver of some sort. Mine came from Halfords and was a lot dearer than that (£130 IIRC) but did come with some free screwdrivers and 3 years later when it stopped working I got a replacement from Halfords (they come with a 5 year warranty).

Everyone recommends Bosch, but from both the X drivers and here, it seems that they are not very good. A lot of them seems to fail well within the life time and ok, so you get them replaced for free again - I am not impressed with what I am reading.

I would take OEM, but it depends on whether you are keeping the car or not ...

Personally I would be jumping for an XS Power, though many would argue it's overkill.

I would personally suggest a Bosch AGM (s6) battery with a ctek conditioner. Give it a plug in once a month and the battery should be okay!

Cheers for that. Think I'll stick with oem. It doesn't matter if I'm keeping it or not, I wouldn't fit a budget battery in any event!

Anyone fitting a light weight batt?

From what i read on a few places before (Zpost for example) you can get some that work OK but must be kept on a tender if the car is parked for more than a couple of days. A friend of mine who tracks an M3 CSL bought a really light one for his car but it kept causing him trouble with the SMG gearbox, that needs a lot of power that the battery couldn't provide. He ended up not using the battery...
