I spent some more time at Porsche yesterday as I'm ready to order a Cayman, but something is nagging at me to wait for BMWs next offering.

I love the i8 and i3 design language and it makes Porsche look very old fashioned. I think that the z5 / 6 will probably be very special. Just stopped myself from actually ordering. Its £50k for a Cayman and my Zed is still running perfectly. Would you hang fire?

Looks great... if you due for a change get a 35i 35is while waiting (amazing daily drives)

or scratch the porka itch and get the z5 z6 later ?

if i wasn't so happy with the 35i id get the porka while waiting
 
Its only itchy feet making me look to change. I buy my cars cash so whilst there is no time pressure to change, it is a reasonably big deal for me to sign a cheque for £50k, so I wont want to do it again for 3 years. Its a nice dilemma, but also a 'responsibility' to get it right! :cry:
 
Buy what you want , use it and move onto the next one you want , you could be waiting for the rest of your life .
 
Your looking at possibly 2 years before that makes it onto the production line and unless your quick off the mark you might have to wait even longer to get one. I'd say if you really love the Cayman then go for it. Still good residuals in them after a few years. I usually find I don't need to change cars but once I start looking and in in that mind set I always end up getting something within the year even if I don't really need it.

Yes, I think that the Z5 is at least a year and a half away. My zed would have 200k miles on it. Probably why I settled on Cayman.

Can't they just stick the 3 litre turbo engine in an i8 and charge 50k? :rofl:
 
What is the effect of your mileage on a Porsche residual?

Not sure if you are bored yet of the E89 shape, but reading yesterday that deal of 35k for a 35is is very, very cheap and would be a low cost stop gap until a Z5 makes it appearance.

Hi PVR,

I try not to concern myself with residuals. Typically I negotiate a trade in value of my old car on 'I want this if you want that'. My cars pay for themselves in about 2.5 yrs, so I don't consider it out of pocket in real terms. I want a change so another E89 is not for me, though so far mine has been superb (and mine has a very busy life!).

I can get a Porsche approved Cayman for £40k. Or even get a mid mileage 911. Seeing them side by side yesterday, I prefer the Cayman I think. If I keep it for 2 yrs, that would cover the approved warranty period. A new Cayman for me is around 50 and would give my a further year of warranty. I can buy that from around £1200, so after soul searching today, a nearly new Cayman looks like the best bet.

The economy must he on the up, the dealership was packed!! :o
