What are you going for next?

Jason,

test driving one on Friday so it will be interesting to see how good it is. Got some good reviews but I don't honestly see me swapping the 'M' as it's such a awesome car. But, we shall see.
Can't so much see the atraction in a JCW, I'd prefer a 130i or 135 coupe, something like that. Mini is nice but the wrong wheels are driven for a start (just IMHO).

i had a play in a brand new 635d a few weeks ago, on massive alpina wheels - 20/21" i think.

had it for the day and really liked it.. although the salesman kept trying to reassure me to "be careful", i did remind him it was still a fair bit slower than the red mist i'd just left with him. the torque was great, and it was huge fun to throw it around but it didn't do anything like the economy i was expecting.. i think i averaged about 16mpg over about 200 miles.

like most of the brits ill be having more of a think than normal when the time comes, but i can't help thinking something like this is a bit more futureproof, plus ive found myself looking longingly at a few 6 series for a while.

Hmmm.. only problem is the residuals.. and i dont have 50k to replace my 30k monster.

I've heard the M3 residuals are dropping fast though.. but i can't justify running a v8... yet =)

Got a deposit down on the GTR as well as a V10 R8...just need to make my mind up now :!: Least I have a good bit of time to do it

I really like the M6, just have to bide my time and find a good used one that has taken the depreciation hit (about 40K in 2 years). :o

Yep. RWD would be the better solution but 'er indoors likes the MINI and we'll probably share it for a few months whilst I wait for the arse to well and truly fall out of the 4x4 market so that I can get my hands on RRS - cheap as chips! The other issue with the 135i is that its too easy to spec it close to £40k at which point it isn't good value and as I need a couple of years of (relatively) cheap motoring to pay for other toys, this seems like the route to go.

I recently drove a 645 convertible, engine sounded great, went fairly well, but overall a bit too much on the "soft" side for me.

Was also tempted by M6, 2nd hand coupes at £40k now, but think I want to stick with convertible, and they're a lot rarer and pricier - you also lose the lovely carbon roof for your extra money!

Am therefore probably going to change into a Merc SL55 AMG - the 500bhp supercharged V8 has seduced me! :D They've also done a lot of depreciation by now, so hopefully that will slow down ...

Sadly, dealers are really shying away from Z4MR's at the moment, have had some ridiculous p/ex offers, or many dealers never even coming back with a price.

Have also not had a single response to an ad in Pistonheads, despite price having repeatedly been dropped, most recently to just £21k - for an '06 car in immaculate condition with 10,400 miles!

Well I drove a John Cooper Works last week and it was quick and good fun but at £25K with a decent spec it was hardly a bargain.
They offered me only £20K part-ex for my Z4M so I'd be £5K out of pocket and would have swapped a fabulously well specced 'M' convertible for a pumped up hairdressers car  so I'll be keeping the Z for the forseeable future

Alex, the M6 is OK but I fear that it has big running costs to match it's £80k-when-new price tag. If you like the SL55 have you tried the SLK55 instead?

I'm not really surprised at your car, although no bites at £21k seems a bit ridiculous. Would you not just be better keeping it for a bit than letting it go for such a low price?

When you put it like that it's hardly worth it, even a straight swap would be dubious, but to have to pay £5k to do it :headbang:

Funny as that's what the MINI guys said about the Z4 when I said I was swopping my JCW S MINI for a Z4 until I said I wasn't getting the convertible version! :P

Hi Mike - I tried an SLK55 last weekend, I was pretty impressed and may try get a longer test drive in another one, but overall I am still preferring the SL at the moment.

I happened to end up trying the SLK over an almost identical test route that I had just been over an hour earlier in a 996 C4S from another nearby dealer, and on one quite bumpy road the SLK was struggling for composure, but it's definitely a fun car with that big V8.

As for the Z4M, I am now trying an Autotrader ad, which I hope will get better results than Pistonheads.

Should hopefully have more success on Autotrader

Glad you liked the SLK55, I'd have thought it is more akin to the Z4M in character, but the SL is very nice too, and they have a great spec and don't really want for anything. Plus they're mega-fast too.

Don't worry - I have done 31k miles last year and my OBC shows 24.1mpg... Ouch! :fuelfire:

My Porker 928 racer (5.4ltrs and 450Bhp) returned an average of 6mpg for a day of testing a couple of weeks ago... :driving:

ive done 21k and mine is at 18.6mpg.. oh well.. lol

Alex - I'm very relieved for you that you're offloading the Roadster to get something more expensive.. recession ? meh....

M6s really have been hit hard huh! 07 convertibles for under 65k!!! Our cars are taking a beating too right now but it is making a lot of very very nice cars more affordable :D
