What are these? (Compartment door recesses)

Can someone please ID these "features" for me?

Inside the door of the compartment that's between the seats, where the CD changer and navigation system DVD drive are housed, there are two recesses. One (furthest from the camera in the pic) has a rubber pad and a retaining strap. The other (closest to the camera) has a little clip. Anyone know what's supposed to go here?

Also ... bonus pic. I figured not many would have seen a nav screen in Japanese. 8)

In later versions, the restraining strap section is for your mobile phone snap-in adaptor ... but here one could use it for anything.
The clip is for a pen: well, that's what I use it for.

Thanks Krusty.

I was thinking that clip looked sort of pen-ish!

ZeeFore,

Would you mind taking a few other closeup shots of your phone holder strap and how it is connected to the lid? I've rigged up some velcro in mine, which came with no strap, but your setup looks better than my DIY job.

Thanks,

Wiseguy

No problem:

The velcro strap simply passes through slots cut into the inner layer of the compartment door. The rubber pad seems to be bonded into a recess of its own.

Hope that's the info you needed. :)

(Sorry 'bout the dust ... damn macro photos ...)

Your nav software looks better then ours.... With the menu along the bottom.

Mine came with a BMW pen too :D

The Z4 nav system is still kind of cryptic and frankly a PITA to use ... especially compared to the system in my Honda. (Um ... am I allowed to admit that my other car is a Honda around here?) The Honda nav is touch screen plus function buttons, and just a whole lot easier to wrap my aging synapses around. Still, in a pinch, I'd much rather have the Z4 nav than none at all. :D

A BMW pen! Damn ... wonder where mine went. :?
