What are the most common roof motor leaks after renewal

Hi,

I just removed and cleaned the roof motor of my E85.
The motor now works fine but unfortunately the hydraulic fluid is leaking.
The leak is not coming from the lines.
It seems to come from the junction between the motor and the pump.
I already done that on another E85 and everything was fine.
What are the most common places to check for a leak?

Thanks, Franklin

The hyd lines are in pairs 2 for up 2 for down the seal between the pump body and the banjo fittings is a crushable copper washer

Fit new copper washers after cleaning all the sealing faces and go from there

Have you lost/checked the O ring between the pump and motor body ?

I have to admit I didn't check if it was OK or if I lost it. Just want to have directions before disassembly.
Is there only this o ring that keep the sealing right between the motor and the pump?

Yes. That’s the only one. It’s about 50mm diameter and sits in the pump recess.

I can add a photo later when I get home

If I ever lost it, could I buy one in a DIY store or a car parts store, as soon as this is the right size? I think yes

Have you removed the motor from the pump and then re fitted it

That's it. The motor was, as usual, in his original location full of rust and water. I removed the motor from the pump to clean it. I have to say I didn't have a look at the O ring so I think I lost it or break it. I still have to disassemble it. When I tested the motor, it ran fine but the hydraulic oil immediately leaked and the container is now empty

It seems the leak is between the two orange circles.
But now I remember that the last time I repaired the same motor on a Z4, I removed the yellow lined part.

What do you think is wrong it my reassembly?

*sorry, really bad at posting pictures in a forum! *

It sounds like you may need a new Shaft Seal. They are usually on ebay separately at about £8 but I cant see any at the moment ,

There's one in the picture below

No. You’d have to buy one from BMW Parts Dept - or possibly on eBay

Seems in OK condition. Found a seller on Ebay but he sells the seal alone for £30!
I have the feeling I made a mistake when reassemble the motor but need to find.
