What are the doors made of?

The doors on my Z4MC seem very light. I thought they might be made of plastic, but they're cool to the touch like the rest of the bodywork. My last car was plastic, so I know what that feels like.

Maybe it's just because they're very small?
 
whatever they're made off they are surely crap! I'm embarassed every time I close them as they make this tin sound clunk...doesn't sound very high quality at all..especially when you park to a car 1/3 the price of the Zed yet their door has a nice deep thud

hmmm ... which model year is your car? they updated the door assembly to fix that ... can't remember which model that was introduced on ...

When I close my 2006 door, it sounds manly. I'm almost too embarassed to slam it with many people around as they might ask me manly man questions. I would answer them all but I'm rather reserved. 8)

I don't think they are plastic as i've had a door dent put into mine on its first carpark visit !
The bonnet seems to sound odd on tapping too, i recon they are ally myself...........

Mine is a 2003 3.0i....hmm remind me not to buy the first generation of the next Z4 ...seems the facelifted cars had many other things improved apart from the reported changes

Defo not Plastic.

I think either Aluminium or a super thin Mild steel.

Please not the Super is not a good thing! lol

Easy way to find out is get a kitchen magnetic and see if it sticks, even zinc plated Steel should attract it.

There is a PUMA for the door locking mechanism being replaced by a other version, so the door doesn't sound so cheap anymore.

They replace the locking mechanism and add a layer of butyl inside the door.
