What are peoples thoughts on Debadging?

I always think de-badging lesser models to hide the fact is a bit sad unless you actually like the smoother look I suppose. But de-badging an ///M is cool and probably reduces tail chasing by wannabes in GTi's, the Beemer Tifosi will know but many others wouldn't realise until you disappear 8)

To be fair I would never lie about it being a 2.0i, I've just carried out so much work on it to make it individual I feel like the 2.0i badge spoils it. I'm not trying to be an M, a 3.0, a 2.5 or a 2.2 I just want people to appreciate the look without prejudging the engine first. And I do prefer it without.

When I say 'sad' I mean as in it's sad when someone thinks having a 2.0 2.2 2.5 etc is something to hide out of shame, that's not being individual that's bending to perceived peer pressure. You like the look and it suits the individual look you have created then go for it

It's amazing how many people go by the assumption that something 'looks fast'... I get it with this, I got it with my FTO, I even got it with my old Honda Del Sol... "How fast does it go?"

Maybe I should put the badges on to avoid keep hearing it and leave that question to you 3.0 guys!

Exactly the same here... much prefer the cleaner look of the de badged cars... but as mine has //M front and rear bumpers im scared if I take them off people will think I'm trying to pretend to be an //M which I'm not.... I have 2.0 due to only wanting a white and this was the ONLY 1 for sale in the UK at the time, and just couldn't afford an //M anyway lol so for now I've kept the 2.0i badge on just to prove a point... although I do think once I start all the winter projects like side skirts, front splitter, headlights, interior wrap I will prob de badge at the same time as 1 of them

Debadged the side of mine much prefer the cleaner lines also changed the badge on the side indicator
to some that a fellow forumite made up ages ago, but I have kept the Z4 badge on the boot as I
didnt like that debadged I thought it looked wonky without it and my eye kept being drawn the boot

I never experienced tail chasers in my M3, it looked like a normal car to the uneducated, I got literally hundreds of people that just had to pass me then cut back in, in my 3.0's. Mostly little sh*t boxes , Fireflies etc. but that all stops in my 911, it's badged , so is my M roadster, no-one bothers me in them and I like it that way.

Meh, its your car mate, you do what you think is right. For what its worth on mine, my badges needed to come off when the car was repainted.. havent bothered to put them back on yet..... and dont resally know where they are now.. lol

It also depends on the colour. Some colours need a badge to add a bit bling, some just look dull without.

I have always debadged my cars, much better to keep everyone guessing. When I had the 550i M Sport everyone thought it was a 520D

The Z4M is completely cluttered with "M"' badges everywhere, I took my exterior ones off.

If it stops thieves and break-ins thats a bonus!

I took mine off a didn't like it after prefer to see the Z4 badge it balances the look evenly having the key hole for boot opposite side

It was a known fact that purchasers of low spec vehicles always asked for this so its was obvious whenever you saw a debadged car that the owner had brought a base vehicle. To us oldies the only reason to debadge a car is to disguise this fact and it shrieks out that you are ashamed of having a low spec vehicle. Dont do it unless you want us oldies laughing at you.s

You still can buy debadged z4's, not ashamed of my 2.0 & I wouldn't be able to hear you laughing that far behind me

Nothing wrong with a 2lt I certainly agree and your probably correct that not being a fast driver I would almost certainly be behind you, its just a shame that the perception is still there.
