What are my exhaust options?

I had mine done by MM a while ago and can definitely recommend it. Engine sound is deep without being overbearing and if any of you guys in the Kent area want to have a listen to mine, feel free to PM

Use a cutting fluid and run your drill slowly. To fast and you will burn out the hole saw.

All the best

Will do thanks Mat

Looking forward to sound clips, if you could do before and after on a same camera position I would be very greatful :driving: Good Luck!

Interested in this also, to make the Zed sound a bit fruitier. Can anyone explain, show, actually which part of the silencer is being drilled into. my experience of using holesaws is the piece you are cutting out usually falls through the opposite side, just wondering how awkward this would be to retrieve if this were to happen. :( . I don't seem to be able to find an exploded/cutaway schematic of the rear silencer..

Hi All,

The holes (32mm) have been drilled via BOTH outlets, I have also removed some of the exhaust wadding via the newly drilled holes using a straightened out coat hanger wire & hooked the end!

I'll let you decided the outcome...... I've been out for short drive this morning and you can hear the tone but only slightly more!

Before Mod https://vid.me/dbwK
After Mod https://vid.me/keVS

I'm going to remove some more wadding when I get chance......

Oh and make sure you have a strong magnet to clean up the filings, this also helps if you SNAP core drill in the pipe!! Yes that happened!!

Not really sure if it was worth it but only took 30mins, took longer to upload the video links

I think it sounds good terry, any chance you could do a how to or put up some pics?

Did you use a cordless drill?

Ash

Hi Ash

Cordless Drill
300mm hole saw extension
32mm hole saw & arbor
Magnet on a stick (For retrieval of metal cuttings, shavings & the snapped drill bit)
Wire coat hanger (For removing wadding)

Not really anymore better pics than the original link to be honest!
Here are some I've just taken for you..... I've also removed more wadding this afternoon & it has a nice tone... might even take more out

Left outlet hole: Drilled straight, dead inline with exhaust outlet

Right outlet hole:: Kinda hard to see but its at a slight angle, that's why the centre drill bit snapped (hence the magnet)

You need to angle the drill so that you hit the perforated metal inside the exhaust, if you get a torch and look down your see what I mean :D

The Tools used:

Hope this helps, its really very simple, removing the wadding takes a little time and patience

This has just saved me £700 and an additional premium on my insurance! Happy Days

Terry

Thanks Terry

Do you think it would be possible to use bigger than a 32mm but?

I will have to try and find a holesaw/ extension robed or try and borrow one.

Thanks

Ash

I'll get them ordered up terry thanks for that

What are you actually drilling into then as I'm a bit confused about it, are you allowing the exhaust gasses to escape through two locations?

Ash

If you look down the pipes your see perforated metal/mesh inners, drill that! Not 100% sure what it is, there is some photos of the exhaust box internals somewhere?

Like I said Left pipe just go straight in, Right pipe you have to drill at a slight angle, if you look inside each pipe you will see the perforated metal inners... should be the same, mine is a 2004 (54) Z4R 3.0iSE

If your worried, don't do it.... I wasn't worried if went wrong as I was going to buy a Remus, but not now!!

Just found this:

Not my image, think its MachineMonkey or yorkies but your just drilling into the perforated wall where the tail pipes are:

Blimey looks like I got lots of wadding to remove via that tiny hole :o :o :o

Pretty impressive tone for almost zero spend T ,
I was in touch with BCS Powerflow Exhausts yesterday looking to open up the aurul pleasures of my V6
& for many hundreds of ££ the noise will be similar :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyTSEplWvo0

Wonder if your conversion is doable on my Audi :)

To be honest I only wanted a small amount of extra noise.... This mod was perfect for what I needed, don't expect to be blown away by this little mod! You won't need any hearing protection!

hopefully will work with the audi too

Ordered a 35mm bit

Hopefully this will be easy enough to do :)

Do you find more wadding is coming out through the hole Terry whilst driving?

Cheers

Ash
