What am I??

6.4 litres
Runs on LPG - yep really
One off so you'll never get it, but Boing Toulouse were involved and Fangio was associated with it.

Ok - Google away and see what you can find ...

Here we go - it's a Bigata Douze
Currently in Puerto Banus awaiting it's next owner, who needs a good few €m to get a hold of it.

Fascinating story behind it:

The Bigata Douze was a prototype car and one of the first cars ever to run on GAS, the brainchild of the owner of EsGaz (France). After the war, most of Europe suffered serious fuel shortages and went about building this car as an experiment and business venture. At a party he saw a stunning 1930’s Auburn that he bought as the basis of the build, he then recruited the help of his Engineering Buddies at Boeing in Toulouse to perform the build.

The aeronautical cues & design inspiration are prevalant throughout the car, its beast like dimensions, its all riveted bare aluminium body, rear fin, highly instrumentised interior and build quality.

Since then the car has numerous awards and was of great interest to many well known personalities of its time including Fangio, Trintignant, Sommer.

A one off, true piece of engineering history.

I was amazed by the ability to build this a few years after WW2, given the state France was in. Run it on gas and make it beautiful looking.

I thought it was an Auto Union pre war GP car, but was sooo wrong.
Me too.
I think lux has been distracted by the 80s 911 behind it - ever one to deliberately miss the point!
