What a sound generator ?

As far as i know its noise from the engine fed into the car which can be adjusted by removing some pieces of foam
I'm sure somebody will give you more info than this

Ahhhhhh the 'ol sound generator ....... often found in the passenger seat ......has bumps where the male of the species doesnt and no appengage where the male of the species does ........mostly seen clinging on for dear life ........easily recognised by her white knuckles and often shreaks in competition with a sports exhaust.
Not to be confused with the plastic sound generator found under the bonnet that "funnels" sound from the air box to the cabin to enhance the engine noise

Novelty value wore off for me some time ago. I would plug the stupid thing back up again if a garage hadn't lost the bit of foam that was removed by the previous owner. May try a pair of socks, or washing up sponge

I feel a bit cheated listening to it, might as well drive around playing a CD of engine noises.

The current M5 actually plays a "modified" version of the engine noise through the stereo.

I actually like how they do this as I like a good noise. My only gripe is the fact that the car still sounds a bit like a hairdryer from outside. It needs more bark.

I have removed the foam, added a Gruppe M and have a eisenmann race exhaust.. my car sounds just as lovely (and loud) outside as it does inside...

my mum says she can hear me coming home from about a mile away.. A friend the other day when i parked on her street said she couldnt hear her tv it was so loud..

yummy noise.

loud car noises just get grating after a while. anything too loud gets tiring.

i quite like the sound of the normal exhaust maybe just a little rougher but nothing too much. it would be good to hear a few of these about for real as the vids just dont do it justice.

can you remove the sound generator completely or quieten it down im sure i saw a thread that did this.
