This is so depressing.

My 93 year old nana is in a nursing home, and I'd be sickened if I ever found out anyone there wasn't treated with respect and dignity :(

My Dad is in Fife in Scotland, only 65 right now but I do worry what will happen when he's older. My brother can't look after himself :lol: let alone an old man, and if we're not living abroad by the time he's becoming infirm then I wonder now and then what we'll do :(

My next door neighbours are in their 70s. They have 3 kids in their 40s/30s all of which live abroad or down south with their own families. The wife of their youngest son mentioned her concern to me as the old man still does insane things like climbing onto the roof to clean his own windows. My wife and I now look out for them and they know to come to our door should they ever need anything at all.
 
Dont forget to consider having a Family Protection Trust set up to protect family assets from sticky fingers when it comes to care home costs. I have seen families lose all inheritance when Councils seize all property to pay for care home costs. Comes as a big shock to a lot of people.

I was told that avoidance of care home costs should not be stated as primary reason for setting up a family trust. It just happens to put a spoke in the wheel. :thumbsup:

Thanks for the info ronk, you are absolutely correct, however, there are several other reasons why people set up Family Protection Trusts, e.g. sideways disinheritance - bloodline asset planning, to name but one reason. The fact that the Local Authority can't access the property as it is held in a trust is a wonderful side effect. Not wishing to glaze over the eyelids of those who couldn't give a stuff, if you want further info, you are welcome to pm me, as is anyone else who needs more info :)
