What 2nd Car

I need a 2nd car to the MR, but the catch is I only have £500 to spend. The budget is so low in part due me wanting to invest in the MR but mostly because it just doesn't need to be that special and wont be doing a lot of miles.

Here is what Im looking for

> Cheap Tax
> Cheap Insurance
> No work need
> No rust
> Manual or Auto
> Reliable

And thats it, Im totally open minded and have even been looking at Micras. This is what we call in my game a "gig wagon"> It will at some point end up with a donna kebab on the roof and no doubt some horny young club goers in the throws of passion on the bonnet.

Here is an example of a contender: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201307207917898/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/1000/model/micra/make/nissan/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/fy44pf/page/2/radius/60?logcode=p

e36.

Though I suspect that the insurance prices won't be reasonable (had quotes higher than my z4.)

but RWD and a diff = drift pig.

Not sure id want to be involved in a crash in one of those... IMHO perhaps worth spending a little more to get something safer?

An extra grand or so would get something with an airbags and crumple zones that didnt involve the passenger cell!

But I would be first to say that my opinion is skewed from working in a major trauma centre!

We have a little CLio 1.2. They seem to be prety reliable. 40mpg cheap to run, Only thing that's gone wrong with it is the coil pack.

Had a Ford KA run about before that. You can pick those up for next to nothing. They rust though, so have a proper look. Clio is a much better car IMO.

Had a mk1 micra too, but that was a while ago. Never tempted by the mk2 due purley to the look.

Happy hunting. :)

Peugeot 306 diesel. I ran one for a year back in 2010 as well as the zed.

50+ mpg and everything on it is cheap to replace if you need to.

I have a VW Polo and its just great. Very reliable. Had it nearly 9 years and hardly any issues whatsoever. Amazing with fuel too.

While safety is always important this car will spend most its life in town centre traffic. It will also get damaged to spending an extra £1000 just isn't worth it.

It's a short trip to and from work so a diesel wouldn't even get warm and I think a small petrol would be more economical. But at the right price a diesel would be fine.

I'd probably consider something from Ford or Vauxhall if it were me.

Had a very good Astra that kept going for miles with no issues whatsoever (cheap tax, insurance, parts and good on fuel).

Also enjoyed a little Fiesta for a year or two when cashflow was tight.

Hope you find something that fits the bill fella.

My GF's sister has just picked up a fiesta for £500, can't fault it - it's even got aircon!

We played this game a while back. Go to Autotrader. Set the max price to £500 and set distance to your preferred distance. It's amazing what comes up.

Acceptable within 100 miles of me
