Sunday's forecast looked great and I fully expected Hartside to be busy with bikers and other enthusiasts. Love to head out and see what's happening (ex bikers Steph and I) and of course the road is fabulous and one of our favourites. Really surprised by so little traffic though - maybe because we headed out at lunchtime. Certainly a long queue in the café - perhaps they were all in there!

Beautifully cool Boxster Spyder in the carpark as well as Herbie!

But the biggest contrast had to be the Daimler Dart which turned up and parked near us - 60 years of motoring development but quite advanced for it's time - fibreglass body, small 2.5 litre V8. Immaculate interior and a very friendly owner willing to let me know all about it - lovely looking engine.

Steph had her usual try at capturing just how enjoyable a drive it is on the camera but she gave up on our return from Melmerby - feeling a bit ill looking at the screen - good job we get plenty of fresh air in the Roadster

Your posts just make me want to get out there - great passenger pics Steph particularly the one taken on the bend with the trees reflecting off the hood  I can imagine driving those roads :driving:

Surprisingly good day paddy - really thought the road would be far busier - we were lucky I guess.

It's so hard to show in photos (or videos) what it's like - the bends, the change in elevation and the views plus lots of other vehicles out enjoying the road - great atmosphere.

Fantastic roads up there, so jealous

Yep - my brother in law drives his Lotus all the way up from Cambridge to come drive them with us. He says it's worth the time and effort

Came up in October with Smartbear to get our roof motors moved by Dave then Cherrym took us for a hoon out to Hartside and back, fantastic :driving: made the 700 miles more than worthwhile

Cherrym knows these areas better than anyone and I think he's met nearly everyone that's had their roof motor moved

Those Darts are so ugly that they are completely appealing! Lovely engine.

Just how I feel about them - look like three designs melded together  :D Same engine as used in the Daimler version of the Mk2 Jaguar.

Nice pics Paul
I'm overdue a hoon over Hartside and a bacon butty at the cafe hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll get there :)

Very nice 981 Spyder.

Never seen one on the road.

It was very cool indeed. Had embossed side covers with silver Spyder logos - all very simple and classy - impressive

Great write up and photos Paul ! Absolutely love that last one on the bends with the Lake District fells off in the distance across the Eden valley...superb  I used to go mountain-biking all around and up and over that neck of the woods and Cross Fell, High Cup Nick and Dufton Pike and I've had my 'knee down' once or twice freewheeling down from Hartside Cafe to Melmerby....what a road !!! I need to get fit and get out there again ! I've always thought the Daimler Dart is probably a lovely car to be inside but on the outside they just look SO weird from every angle :o
