wet patch in the boot.

Left my car for a couple of weeks whilst I went away, then came back to find a soaking wet area in the boot (the little area behind the drivers side rear light, on the right side of the boot.

Now i've had this car more than 2 years and have never noticed this before. It's only after putting the hardtop on and leaving it on the drive through some awful weather.

Are there any common things to look at that cause leaks in the boot?

Could be this, theres some photos of the water half way down the page and possible silicon fix on page 3 http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32376&start=15

Was it left facing uphill?

No mate, front end was facing downhill. Reckon water could've got in through that gap between the bootlid and that long panel behind it?

Hope you get to the root of the problem quickly, there is nothing worse than water ingress. Are you able to pin point exactly where the water is entering by using a hose pipe?

If it's in the dip (one either side) then I had this too a couple of years back. Was soaked! Lights out and silcone thread when replacing did nowt, however there's a seam near where the boot struts attach and also a torx head if I recall correctly. A silicone line along this sorted the problem.

Most common issue is the screw on top of the light assembly being slightly lose. I had exactly this, a puddle in the right hand compartment and a quick tighten with a philips / torx (cannot remember which) screwdriver and it was sorted. Try that first before anything else.

I noticed my carpet was wet on both side of the boot in the little "pocket" areas also this week. I removed the plastics from the back of the lights and pulled back the carpet and I could see that the insulation around the shock absorber mounts were pretty dry so water wasn't coming in from the top, but the metal on the boot floor was wet and the carpet was soaking it up.

After reading on here for a bit I released and carefully removed the vents (Part No. 64226909340) in the bodywork that are just below and round a bit from the tail lights (inside) and found that the seal on one was snapped and the seal on the other was not seated properly on the vent itself. Bought a set of new ones from the local MD for £10.70 the pair and just finished fitted them. A bit of a fiddle from the inside but doable..

Due to the small amount of water that was in the boot, and the fact my battery was not sitting in a pool of water as some peoples were I hope this will be the fix,, worth checking as it is a cheap part and easy to fix.

Is your centre rear brake light cracked or rubber looked perished? I replaced mine and it cured any water ingress I got.
