Wet Footwell Carpet

I thought i would add a new topic her as it's not exactly the same issues as other owners have had - leaking through the door.

The side wall of the door isn't wet, and neither is the mat. It is under the mat by the door all the way to around the the accelerator peddle where it is most damp. I can't see anything on the plastic by the door. There is also a bad smell in the car, which becomes worse when the heater is on the footwell.

Any ideas??
 
Are there any visual signs of water after heavy rain or is it getting in by stealth?

No visual sign at all. It's had a bad smell for over a month and just noticed it was wet under the mat at the weekend, when I was cleaning it out.
 
I had exactly this and think I solved it this weekend (fingers crossed).

It was coming in at the rear of the window where it didn't seal tight enough against the...seal. You could see it creep in and run down the inside of the glass right in the corner (bottom left corner of the glass looking at drivers side from the outside). It then ran round the inside of the door and dropped down from the door seal to the footwell.

Mine didn't appear to be wet on the carpet side wall up to the door or the top of the matt, but it was actually trickling down there - all evidence just disappears really quickly. If I attacked the weak point with a watering can, then opened the door after 5-10 seconds, I could see it running down to the floor from the door seal, but 10 seconds later it would be clear, although with a damp patch on the floor under the mat.

I *hopefully* sorted mine by just moving the hook that the door latches onto in by a few mm, meaning that the door is held in further when closed and therefore the window more against the seal.
