Took the Z on its first long trip last week Weston-s-mare to Harrogate 258 miles.
I must say i was amazed how comfortable it was just tipped the seat back, sounds, sunglasses on you get the picture. 8)
Kept it between 70-95 mph (45 at Nottingham road works) but returned 38.1 mph my old 535d would do 40.7 on the same trip.
All in all well pleased with the car.

Oh but I agree with you on the long range ability of the Z. I've done a few long drives in it and it's a pleasure. Having the nice band of torque means you can be lazy and ust cruise a long in 6th. I went to Gti international the other weekend, 2 hours there, hour or so at the show and then 2 hours home. Felt fresh as a daisy when I got out the car at home.

Plus of course I spend on average 2.5 ours a day in mine doing the commute.

J.

Maybe I cheated a bit I reset the mpg trip as I hit the motorway (motorway all the way)
and check it went I got off.

I like that but also feel that the MPG is not what I bought my car for. Even with the fuel prices the way they are, I drive the crap out of this car.

You came to Harrogate (my home town!) and didn't say hello???!!! I presume you were visiting someone, coz that's a long way to go (in UK terms) for a cruise in the car :D

I've no idea how you can get that economy out of your car. I struggle to get 30mpg on a long run. Obviously have heavier shoes...

Do you wear deep sea divers shoes? :poke:

I do a lot fair bit of motorway driving on mu commute and but it's balanced out with a bit of town driving and I get about 35mpg on average, sometimes better. This is partly helped by traffic keeping the top speed down though and I tend to go with the flow.

On a fun drive on the weekend I managed my lowest mpg yet..... 30mpg  This was over 60 miles, with a good drive over the moors, but speed was kept respectable by the threat of sheep on the road  Then half of the more regular roads home had a bit too much traffic, although overtaking was fun :driving:

I find the car great for long drives, comfy seats and the nice lazy 6th gear.
