Were M badges optional on an LCI E89?

G29 M40i badged and sold by BMW as that. Nothing added or taken off.

It’s not an “M” car but it’s a better all round drive than my previous M2 and quicker, apparently!
Best not to let any one else know that, just enjoy. :driving: Otherwise the marketing suits will start sticking Z4 badges on all the ///M cars to convince the hoy-pelloy that they are as fast as a G29 M40i. :D

Well I’m shocked but it appears that post LCI Z4s did have a M badge on the flank if they had M aerodynamics package...

My lci m-sport didn’t have those fitted, it had the badge delete option from the factory. From memory i think it was listed under the sh*tstorm avoidance section
Rob

So, as a purist you should keep it like that.

Not so sure about the coloured strips on the grille though :poke:

That’s ok, they don’t say “m” anywhere & as a bear i have special privileges :P

Mine’s got the badge delete option too, which is handy as the person who ordered the car obviously didn’t want to stand out

what I find amusing is the ‘s-drive’ bit...bringing attention to the fact that the car has only 2 wheel drive :driving:

Ah well, you see I like that bit, as unless I'm mistaken it means RWD! Not granny's FWD. :D
It means standard drive as far as I know

Apologies, I stand corrected. It basically means it drives 2 wheels, to differentiate from X-drive (all four wheels).
Of course I was forgetting that BMW now see fit to build an 'ultimate driving machine' with FWD. What is the world coming to!

There you go, I’ve fixed that for you-no need to thank me :P

My 2013 LCI Msport did come with badges, I have removed the ones on the wings and binned the 326 alloys, There are however still M motifs on the steering wheel, gear knob and door sills which I will have to live with....I do therefore have two genuine OEM wing badges going free to a good home👍But I have added Msport accessories such as front grilles and rear lower valance and diffuser but that was done to compliment the Supersprint exhaust and give a better look to the front end and not to portray the car as an M division machine.

It seems that you offend the M-badge police at your peril.

It's the same on the Jaguar forums when you mention fitting a "leaper" to the bonnet. It makes these old women drop a stitch on their knitting, their shrieking indignation is frankly hilarious, they are all so superior.

My first E86 was a Sport model (M-Sport got invented later) but had an M badge on the steering wheel and on each road wheel so BMW have history with random M badges!

I bought a 2002 E46 325ti Sport Compact in 2014 that also had an M badge on each wheel, the steering wheel and gear lever knob.

Im getting a flashback to an old BMW advert that showed the difference between rear wheel drive and front wheel drive by using a bicycle and a unicycle. The bicycle drove with the rear and steered with the front whereas the unicycle drove and steered with the same wheel.

Let me get this right. So, you are saying my 35is with "M" badges is not an "M" car after all?

I think you just got away with that https://youtu.be/yfl6Lu3xQW0

Ok so you cant blame BMW for making a few extra bucks by adding 'M' badges everywhere or Jaguar doing the same with their 'R' badges...the one that really made me laugh were the people that bought Chrysler 300s and then rebadged them as Bentley's
