Went up for a run up Glenshee

I was up in Nairn for the last couple of nights. Had plenty of spare time on the way North so decided to take the Glenshee/Lecht road. First time I've gone up it and really enjoyed driving it - some sections of really open fast bends and then some really tight twisty and rollercoaster ups and downs.

Stopped at the top of Glenshee to take a few pictures.

Found something interesting in the layby I stopped in - so here comes the competition time. Name the car...

Got to be a range rover - looks like it has bits missing though... Was it in an accident ? PLEASE tell us you took a sneaky peak and got some photos sans-cover :)

judging by how often that road is used by JLR I would say that is next RR ... I've hears reports that a disguised version was seen at Aberdeen Airport earlier this week.

Great road a lot of Z4 forum meets for me start with a run down thhat road ... :driving:

Having re looked at the photos ...it is a 2013 Full Fat Range Rover in disguise. alloy wheels are similar to MY12 RR wheels... stance is right for it to be a RR.

edited... if you look at this http://www.carsuk.net/2013-range-rover-spied/ you will see the same alloys on this one and this confirms why it looks like no headlights are fitted ... http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic8292.html

The Glenshee road was used to test the evoque and I've seen Jaguar Mules on it before now.

Years ago coming out of Aviemore I saw a P38 Range rover come down the road totally undisguised a good 6 months before launch and before the official photos were out.

Well done a good spot... would have loved to see what the inside looked like.

We sooo need to do that road on a meet next year - funnily enough it might already be in my plans for a drive...

Agree the wheels are the giveaway for me - look similar to existing RR alloys. Please tell me you pulled back the cover!

look forward to it .... i'll get to do it twice !

I douby he would have seen much if he had from what I've seen in other spy shots there is an interior cover fitted over all the seats and dash.

Much to everyone's disappointment, I didn't pull back the cover. The photos don't show it well, but it was actually pretty gusty and windy up there - and my experience of car covers in such conditions is that it'd be off down the mountain faster than I could run after it!!

I reckon my opinion is that it was a Rangie, there were two more mules out testing. One wasn't covered and looked fairly Range Rover like. The other was in the Lecht Ski Centre and I went shooting past too quickly (but within the speed limit :) ) to stop for a look or go back for a picture. I'm guessing the drivers were in for a tea or coffee! I wish I'd got a photo of it, because it was much shorter (height & length) and possibly only two doors. The camouflage was completely different - very small and multi-coloured patterns. It could easily have been a different manufacturer but I'd expect it to be a JLR mule if they others were Range Rovers - looked similar size wise to an Evoque or that Range Stormer concept from a few years ago.

ETA - something more like THIS or THIS

oh what roads and ill bet empty :( it;s 440 away from me.

You're in Cambridge TINO? I lived in Huntingdon for 3 or 4 years, and roads like that are part of what drove me back to Scotland!

Been emailed this from today's Daily Mail. I could be wrong, but I can't help but think they're barking up the wrong tree connecting it to the Royals - given JLR have been known to use that patch before!

only way i see a royal connection is whether RR have been allowed to store the vehicles at night on the estate.

There is usually a big fleet up in the summer when the royals are up of RRs and Disco4s.

the shorter stubbier one could be the next RRS due 2014.

How weird is this ..... drove left out of the house down the country lane at the side of the house this afternoon and guess what came the other way down the road other than this thing with out its cover on.

What is weirder as the topic of conversation between SWMBO and myself was the fact that the RR had been spotted at Braemar.

Deffo RR the bloke waved when i flashed my light like any good RR owner

Done that road hundreds of times. :driving:
That's Glenshee in my signiture.

I've even followed the snow plough up there a few times, en route to the skiing.
