Well this Sucks

Thanks StevenH72 for basically saying that it was 100% my fault.

Merry Christmas

Alas, as Steve explained it was. We've all done it, or just about got away with it. :)

Lifes a great teacher ain't she.

If the cost to repair the two cars was only in the hundreds of quids, then it should n't push up your no claims too much.

Take care out there.

Welcome OP

There are some quality (informative/polite) posts on this thread especially when you compare it to the 'Lounge debacle' where there's so much one upmanship that I even considered leaving the site. :x

This thread reinforced my thoughts that although there are some astonishing attention seekers who seem to fail to understand that their beautiful cars are for DRIVING and not a passport to this site :poke:

Fortunately for me I've been driving for 29 years and only 2 minor accidents of which the other party was to blame.

Good luck for the future buddy and I hope it all works out well.

By the way you won't go wrong putting your trust in 'Manic' (if he appears) or Tom Scott.

I've driven about 500,000 miles in 23 years and I've no idea what the acronym COAST means.
Do tell. This thread has been uncharacteristically on topic so far.

I have been driving for 49 years before being told what it means.

This may have helped the OP avoid his RTC.

Hey thanks for everyone who has replied and given their thoughts. I have attached the photos of accident. As you can see as I tried to brake as hard as possible but the car slid forward and I even tried to move to right to avoid the car while the car was sliding forward.

I was very lucky not to damage the radiator :) and the panel damage was very light, yet still had to be replaced.

Thank you StevenH72 for you second post as it made me feel a bit better, as you can image i don't want to lose the Z4 as its my pride and joy.

Thanks for everyone else who left positive feedback, the Z4 community is truly a great.

Thanks again

Sounds like you've had a lucky escape judging by the photos. Minimal damage and thus costs to either car and nobody injured.
Ironically I'd suggest that had you kept the car in a straight line you'd have stopped in time as the distance could have been much less than partially steering it.

This is not an ownership breaking deal on future insurance premiums, so sleep well and as others have said learn from life's harsh lessons.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what the KA driver did/didn't do - if you go into the back of another car, absent witnesses to say they reversed/rolled back into you, you're usually going to be found at fault as you haven't left sufficient distance between the vehicles to stop safely

As it looks like you've already informed your insurance company, your renewal cost will increase - the only thing you might be able to do to mitigate this, other than shop around, is ask them if taking an advanced driver training course will reduce your premiums.

Already got the advanced drivers bit and more besides and it doesn't reduce anything

Don't agree at all with you here Jeeper. The front of the Zed is the best part of two feet past that tow bar. would have totalled the oil cooler and bumper, at best. More likely would have taken out the radiator and bent the front sub frame, creased the bonnet. The list goes on.

Think the OP reacted correctly, in the circumstances. :driving:

The trick, as mentioned, is to avoid the circumstances, by applying COAST. We're all going to remember this now, which is a result.

Just thought, the 2.0i is probably not the same as mine, behind the front bumper, but I'm sure you get the gist.

The point I was making was that braking is a straight line stops a car much, much quicker than attempting to turn it, especially on a wet road. Turning and allowing ABS to assist is perfect if you turn enough and in time to pass the object.

The finishing position is no indication of what damage would have been caused as a) I'm arguing it would have stopped sooner and b) directly behind the front bumper is a the 5mph impact foam and strong steel cross beam, designed to accept the impact of such low speed taps. If the cars hit the damage would have been to the bumper alone and the wing likely been save, however it's all conjecture and we'll never know.

No doubt correctly positioned with enough space to react and stop, (be that COAST or any other appropriate way to remember) then the accident would never have happened, but we can all be wise after the event.

Nahh, nice try, still think your wrong and OP was right to try and steer around. :P

Welcome and bad luck,
I am surprised that no one has pointed out the obvious....none of this would have happened if you were the right car. An M coupe would have avoided this collision for you! :poke:
