Had a call from a friend that my rear window was smashed this morning. Was fine when I left at 10.15, she called at around 11 to let me know the good news.
I assume the rear window isn't replaceable in these and I need a whole roof? :x

Oh hell! Any ideas of the cause?
I believe you will need a new roof but maybe someone knows how to replace the glass?
 
Nope no idea, could have gone itself, or alternatively it could be someone on the estate who is pissed off I have 2 Z4s taking up parking spaces. Trying to sell the sodding thing which is of course when it all goes wrong :rofl:
They certainly picked the right window to cause maximum financial pain

I've removed a couple and lifted each side individually to swap pipes over, but never fitted one..................... yet. Got one in the shed I need to fit to the current project car.
I don't think it's actually too difficult though.
Alan (Number5) is away on holiday but maybe he could assist when he gets back unless you're in a rush?
 
Ah, that’s crap Tom. People can be such bar stewards. Information on this thread may be useful for cost of roof and cost of fitting, but it won’t help your mood any :(

You can claim on insurance for glass.
Could be a blessing if they write it off and then you won’t have to worry about selling it.
 
Part of me just wants to claim on insurance and get the bloody thing out of my hair to be honest before I spend any more money on it. Just had 12 months MOT put on it which is a shame but nobody wants to buy it when it had a window so now it's even more worthless :rofl:
 
That’s typical bad news when selling, mines for sale and yesterday kids decided it was a good idea to launch a football on the roof ….dent man incoming :rofl:
 
I don’t think the rear screen is replaceable. A new roof from BMW is in the region of £4K.
 
A while ago on here someone had this happen and thought it was a bird dropping stones or something as it flew over. Still a PITA though. :thumbsdown:
 
A new BMW was £800 when BMW replaced mine on my first Z (they washed it against my instructions ). Some years ago though (2004)

At least it looks like you should be able to get a replacement though. :thumbsup:
 
I’ve fitted a couple. It’s fairly straight forward.
You’ll find a second hand roof for around £200.
