Well they said it wouldnt happen but it did, roof motor has

Nope, you should be able to see it in that pic Luke. Did you have your roof motor replaced ? I am sure you said yours was busted a while back... If so, could they have forgotten to re-fit it !? Of course, if that was the case then the hydraulics would be disengaged and the roof wouldn't go down using the switch, just unlatch... Which may be why your roof doesn't work if it is still broken :?

I don't think you can forget to refit it - its part of the hoop assembly that fits all around the back and sides (silver in the above photos). If it was removed for some reason, the motor would still work. The cable when pulled operates a lever that engages the bypass. No cable = no bypass so the motor would work fine.

Okay, I thought it worked differently - pushing it in pushed a plunger in to engage the hydraulics and pulling it let it come out. Weird, for some reason I thought the plunger was spring loaded. Talking crap again

I still haven't got round to doing any work on the roof motor so have been sitting tight for the last while! I had a real good rummage around to see if I could find it but it doesn't seem to be there!! :headbang:

I was chuffed when I found this thread but gutted when I found no pull cord or red hoop!! :headbang:
I've got a cord coming from the base of the rear carpet (by the rear bulk head) with a toggle on the end of it, but that doesn't seem to do anything either :?

That releases the locking mechanism for the cubby between the seats IIRC.

So pressing the button does nothing then, no unlatching ? If so, I think it needs taken apart :(

Sorry, Yea, pressing the button at the front un latches the front hooks. But I am unable to drop the roof :?

Because you can't move it by hand right ? So without the cable you can't engage the bypass and you can't move it because of hydraulic pressure I guess. Has the roof ever worked ?

Bingo! Yeah the roof worked when I first got it for about 6-7 months. All through summer was great!
I can unlatch and move the roof back slightly by hand but because of hydraulic pressure it won't move more than a few inches off the front :(
Anywhere else a release mechanism would be found?

Weird it's not there! :(

I can see the thin hoses that run across that section but no red hoop
Will have to have a deep rummage to find something

Still not been able to find this cable, its just not where it says it should be! Any other ideas as to how to release the rood manually or anyone else who doesnt have the red hoop? :headbang:

The thin hoses are the hydraulic lines running from the motor to the drivers side. Hate to say it Luke but you are going to have to give in and take it to a garage and have it looked at. Pick a good Indy who knows BMWs. I am guessing you'll need a new cable, possibly a new motor - either way the roof will end to come off to fix it I reckon :(

Just took a picture from the passenger side just behind the seat and there is no cable that runs to a red handle and there looks like clips have been broken. Why would anyone take it off!? I'm baffled!!

You probably have to take it out when you remove the roof and associated gubbins Luke - I still think when the motor has been replaced someone has forgotten to re-fit the cable :(

You should be able to get a part number for it from realoem ? I'd help but only have my iPad and realoem keeps crashing safari :headbang:

You NEED to get it fixed mate - summer could be over next week 8)
