Well, its time :-(

After nearly 2 years of the M, loving every mile...ok most of the anyways, its time for me to sell! :o
Now with the market on its ass at the moment I am going to sell private instead of P/X which I have never done before. I was wondering the best way to advertise, Im thinking big ad in Auto Trader?? Also what is the deal with people coming to see it and drive it with insurance etc? I also dont want people just turning up and using it as a free go in a v.fast car...any ideas how to combat that?

Autotrader or Pistonheads. Only thing with Autotrader is the agencies calling you, I got around that by answering the phone to them and then throwing it into my drawer at work, leaving them hanging on for ages. Or alternatively, just keep hanging up on them if they call you and they'll soon get the message.

So what you going for next? GT-R?

:)

Autotrader's worked for me in the past but avoid Ebay and the local rags. The Times on Sunday or any of the broadsheets might be worth a punt? Not a good time to sell though, so can't you wait until Spring?

as above try pistonheads, sold 2 cars really quickly on there myself and no real messers, just make sure you price it right otherwise the phone will be silent ;) plus its free

Yeah pistonheads for me too.

Sold the TT & previous Z on there - the Z being sold within a couple of days.

Good luck mate - as you say and know, not a good time to sell (and the p/ex value I got recently stopped me selling).

Yeah well Im going to put it on just now and see how it goes, dont need to sell urgently. Ill try pistonheads then and Autotrader.
What do you guys think is a reasonable price: Its 07, every extra, black with black extended leather and I think its just over/just under 20k miles (its in the garage and its too cold and windy to go down there and check :P ) I tried that site that prices cars and it said 28k. Im thinking £27500? Maybe 27k?

Wondermike the real reason Im selling is Im doing a bit of travelling next year. I have an order on a V10 R8 but I doubt Ill be taking it as 1: Ill be away and 2: within a year, in this market, they will be a lot cheaper! :D So Ill just see what is nice'n'cheap when Im back in the market

At the moment, the 2006 models are selling for 17k , 2007 for 20k... I would not bother selling.

Well as I say Im going to advertise it, if I dont get a sensible offer I wont sell. But as far as I could see the M's for 07 were all about 25k or above on Auto Trader

Don't want to disappoint you mate, but you'd do well to hit 25k.

I was offered below 22k for mine in trade in recently (didn't give me an exact figure but just showed me a 56 plate and said the price would be a bit lower). Mine's got every necessary extra except hi-fi upgrade.

The values have plummeted. Luckily for me it made my mind up to keep it, but its certainly not a sellers market. You've nowt to lose by advertising though as you say. Hope it works out for you

Are you talking about Roadsters? Show me a Coupe for £17k!

The only reason 06 Coupes are going for £22-£23k and 07 Coupes for £23-£26k is because nobody is buying anything at all, thus to achieve a sale you need to offer a bit of a deal. But it works both ways, the car you are replacing it with (especially if it's a performance car) will most likely be cheaper too. 911s are cheaper than they have ever been. E92 M3s start at £34k, which is a steal. Dealers aren't interested in taking Z4Ms into stock - M3s have a wider appeal and even those are not selling – so offer silly, silly money for it. However even that will be around the £20k mark.

Selling now will hurt, a lot. It will level out over time because otherwise the car would be worth £7k this time next year (and that is not going to happen), so it may be worth hanging on 6 months; it's not as if it will be any worse by then...things may have improved

Mike - I am talking about what dealers are offering for Z4M roadsters for trade for 2006 models ...

I reckon the coupes keep their value around 5-8% better than the roadsters do.

Personally i think unless you are loaded, swapping the Z4m for an M3 would probably be just another disaster in depreciation for you.

Id wait till next year if it was me!

Its going into Top Marques next week and Auto Trader and ill put an ad on Pistonheads. As I said unless I get offered what I want its going nowhere. I'm also a Property Developer and in this year the 2 I have sold I was told 'oh, expect 20 - 30% under what your listing!!' by several estate agents...both sold for what I wanted and within a month so all you need is the right person. Ill keep you all posted...
