Welcome lights

how do you program stuff without the nav screen, is it a PITA. and does it just talk to the car via the original headunit wiring?
 
I got a cheapo cable from eBay (£1.50 delivered) - it's permanently installed and routed behind the boot carpet with all the other wiring and presented in the battery well (use cable ties to stop it moving about). I connect to it using a usb extension lead and it all works perfectly - having it presented in the boot makes updates very easy as you've got somewhere to sit the laptop
 
Currently the lock and unlock lights are not configurable via the single line (non Nav) interface. It is possible to configure them via commands from the downloader program but it's not particularly easy to do so. Configuration from the non Nav interface should be available in future firmware.

So just to be clear before I upgrade. You can set just the front fogs on their own to act as DRLs?
 
No, that's illegal in the UK.

You can set any combination of lights to come on for a set amount of time on Lock and Unlock, you can set the front side lights to be Daylight Running Lights.

OK so I'll read "any combination" to mean I can select just front fogs on unlock. So what is the maximum "set amount of time" of which ye speak?

I have replaced my fog bulbs with day white LEDs and as they are now the same colour and in the same place as every new car's DRLs I really don't see how I could be breaking the law. The Z4 sidelights are way too weak to be visible enough during the daytime to act as effective DRLs even when replaced with white LEDs.
 
The time for Exit/Entry lights can be set from 10 seconds to 120 seconds.

Technically you can be fined for 'misuse of optional lights' if you use lights designed as fog lights when it's not foggy or snowing.
