Weird problems

Right then got a few random issues. Firstly random power steering shut off happens about once a month.

Secondly wipers just freeze in the screen and washers and wipers wont work again until i turn ignition off then back on.

And then finally from cold i get a squeal noise on start up and a buzzing noise. I reckon its coming from tensioner on v belt. Car is in 59k miles. Anyone reckon i got a faulty belt or tensioner causing voltage issues. Ive had a new battery last year. I do notice the headlights dim slightly when revved
 
Maybe alternator....

The noise could be the belt being dragged as the alternator loads up whilst trying to charge..


Your other glitches sound voltage related.... So again maybe alternator. I have recently seen a few BMW's that are suffering from overcharging alternators,the spike in voltage causes weird glitches.
 
Agree sounds like the alternator is struggling.

Wipers could be a build up of grease on the internals - there's a fix on here to rectify it....
 
Yeah heard about the grease thingy. Voltage across battery is ok. Could be belt slipping causing the spikes in voltage. I know this would shut eps down to protect it. Hopefully either belt or no enough tension on the belt.

Hope it isnt alternator. Could even be voltage regulator?
 
If you find your wiper motor is going I have one I had to replace 3 months ago due to the drivers arm plastic ball failing!!! You cannot buy just the arm from bmw you have to buy the who motor and arms!!!. :headbang: I have kept it because sods law after the 1 year warranty the motor will fail. PM me if you are interested.
 
Excellent i'll keep that in mind. I'll try the grease method first as sometimes the wipers dnt park properly. Then sometimes the shut off completely
