WEIRD ONE. ADVICE REQUIRED.

Hi all,

A few months back I got an EML light and the error code 29f4 on my 2008 E85 2.0L. I've also noticed, although I'm not sure if related, that the car shudders a lot after starting from cold.

I tried using Shell's premium petrol and turning off the light to no avail. My next move was to replace all o2 sensors (2 pre-cat and 1 post-cat) on the car with used BMW OEM parts. (In hindsight I should've used new Bosch ones). The light comes back on after a few hours.

Can anyone advise as to my next move? I'm thinking of getting some Cat cleaner but I'm not optimistic. I'm looking to sell the car but obviously can't with an EML on. I know taking it to BMW is an obvious option but unfortunately being 25 with a house means I just don't have the cash for it right now.

My worst nightmare would be a cat replacement but before I consider taking it to BMW to diagnose I'd like some advice to other plausible options....

PLEASE HELP, I'm lost for ideas :(

Try the link on here, no experience myself but seems it could be caused by running rich.

It passed it's MOT last month with no emission issues? Would this suggest it isn't running rich?

It doesn’t have to go to bmw, that’s the last place I would take my car. I’d be taking it to a decent specialist at this point if it were mine. In fact I’d never have done as much as you tbh

Where are you based? I think you probably need to get your manifold properly inspected for cracks.

If it is the manifold there's quite a few results on the Google.
