Weird MPG - worse after fill up with vpower!??

Hi everyone

Decided to fill up the Z with vpower for the first time this week and I've noticed that the mpg has got worse by 2 or 3 compared to what I'd been getting before.

Have recently (last 500 miles) changed the spark plugs, checked for fault codes (none) and the long term fuel trims are 1.6% and 2.2% indicating nothing untoward. No brakes sticking as all wheels the same cool temp after a normal motorway run home.

I know the knock sensors will need to adjust over a tank or two for the vpower but surely it shouldnt have made things worse?!

Anyone else have any experience of this?

I tried a similar premium petrol. I didn't check the mpg unfortunately and I never noticed any difference with the Z.
I had noticed slightly sweeter running when using .on bikes previously

V-Power has a tendency to soak into your right ankle and cause undue pressures

I've not noticed an mpg improvement in V-Power but it has always made my cars feel better. In particular with the ///M there is much less low throttle hesitation.

Andi.

I sometimes feel the good stuff's a little down on power... as if those running the petrol stations are fiddling the pumps. The only consistent place seems to be Tesco 99.

I think Shell suggest that first couple of tanks will be cleaning up the combustion environment
Believe or not
However I do use V Power exclusively in Z and 120d and both run like the proverbial sewing Machine

I guess I will just have to fill up a few more times then and wait for my combustion environment to ..............'cleanse'

Takes 2-3 tanks before the ECU alters. Reset you figure after that and you will find it will be similar but the car will feel a bit more eager.

I have a 2003 2.5 an have never had above 25 mpg even on a decent run. My journey to work is really short so i thought that was the reason plus it only has 5 gears rather than the 3.0 having 6. I have jist accepted it as i didnt buy it for the economy but what do u guys think??

Well I've never seen less than 29 over a tankful in my 3.0, but I haven't had it that long and don't drive the wheels off it.

I'll give the premium 2 more tankfuls then monitor it - interesting to see what happens.

I've not had mine for long so still experimenting with fuel and the right foot!

My mpg appears very variable at the mo, I did manage 35 on a long motorway run recently but this week using premium esso I'm getting 27/28 to work and back ...... But it's been so cold I'm 3/4 of the way there before I get the car to normal running temp so this will be using extra fuel

Generally though I think I get higher mpg from the higher rated fuel - would this be right?

ive almost had mine for a year and my averge for that year is just over 30. im using 95 from wherever i buy it, i dont drive slow. i do rag it off lights with the chav boys when im in the mood. i try not to rag it on the way to work when its cold, work is only 2 miles away and 1/4 f the roads have speed bumps so its 2nd gear slow ( i should walk but when you can drive the z who would??) the amount of lights usually gets it nice and warm. it often gets a motorway run (at least once every 2 weeks). so my driving is pretty varied. this car is better than the 1.8 focus had before. i didnt notice the difference between the 99 or the 95 ron fuels.
