Weird electrical problems

Hi all,

I have a 2006 2.5si with about 15k on it. Had it for about 3 months. In that time a couple of things have happened intermittently;
1.When i have wound both windows up at the same time they have shot back down as if something was in the way (which it wasnt). This has happened half a dozen times in cold but not frozen weather
2.The speedo lights stayed on today after I switched the engine off and stayed off till sometime later. I hadnt left the lights on by accident
3. A couple of times now I have noticed that the mileage display has just disappeared for 10 seconds or so whilst driving. I have a feeling this will have happened more often than this as try to look at the road!
4. Finally there is a developing notchiness, nearly every time now, in the steering just off the straight ahead. This makes me despair as I had the same feeling in my Mini and it turned out to be a new column

Anyway wondered if you guys had experienced any of these as I think the dealer, although the car is under warranty, will have a hard job sorting the first three issues unless I have some ideas. They will have plenty of work to do though as the glovebox doesnt shut, the handbrake only works on one side and the rattles go on forever!!

Thanks

I've had similar to no 2 and 3 but not regular enough to get it sorted or enquire about - I have no warranty though so cant be bothered...

Yes 1 and 3

1. seems to be a problem if I raise the windows when turing the engine off. All to do with multiplexing I think you will find and voltage changes.

3. Problem on both my E46's and Z4, think its down the the little light sensor on the light switch, but not something I worry about now.

I have number 1 and 2 on mine! Very intemittent though so I am not sure what can be done.
The lights on problem is more frequent! 14k miles on mine.

With just over 8K on a 2007...

I occasionally get #1, especially when accelerating and closing the window at the same time – for instance when pulling away from a toll booth (and it seems to "know and enjoy" doing this more when it's raining).

Not quite #3 in terms of disappearing, but on a few rare occasions I've started the car to see that the clock needs resetting and all other trip computer information has been lost (main odometer has never been an issue).

Given that the Zeds are arguably BMW's least technology-embedded cars, I can't imagine some of the issues that might have cropped up with tech-monsters like the 7 Series.
