Wee Weekend Jaunt .......

Bloke on the Telly says weather will be mild this weekend :D

so, Saturday evening, plan to drive from Edinburgh to Folkstone, pop the car on the train, head up to Holland through Belgium ....... visit my grandson on his first birthday ....... pop back to Calais around 4pm, jump on the train, back in the house around 4am Monday morning ....

Bonkers indeed but a trip well worth the effort .............

Few things ..................
The Michelin Alpine Winter tyres I have fitted have a much better profile for shifting water than the Pilot Sports ...... defo felt the difference in the big rain I experienced ........, grip was awesome.

Anyone that has been through the Dover/Calais thing in the last 12 months knows the chaos ........ even though its over 3 times the price the Flexi Plus tickets for the train are well worth it ........ arrive, down the flexi plus lane, past all the queues .... straight onto the train gone, I can describe just how much that pissed off the normal punters when some bloke in a Skoda found it necessary to jump out waving his fist at me calling me a feckin w***er and to get in the normal queue :thumbsup:

Did the 8 hour drive to the train, then the 4 hour drive to Holland, did the bizz with the grandson ...... 4 hrs back to Calais, 100 miles then into a cheap and nasty hotel, home 4 pm Monday .... excellent trip. +/- 1500 miles........ ran like a sewing machine :thumbsup:

Good on you that's dedication. :thumbsup: I love driving but that would be a stretch for sure. Zed looks to be the bell of the ball amongst the hum drum of the chunnel. 8)
 
Lucky for the choice of day, delays were 6 hours yesterday at the tunnel.
 
That is an awesome voyage, but you must have been taking it easy to do 8 hours to Folkstone, overnight. Tactical naps?
 
My house to the train is 7 hrs in anybody's money stopping for coffee etc makes it 8 fast enough. (don't forget this is mr nicked for doing a 101 mph on the M8 here ........ speed limits are observed lol)
The thing about the Flexiplus tickets is - it doesn't matter about departure delays, you arrive, you drive down the lane, you get on the next train ...... if you have a booking and there is a 6 hr delay, that's you stuck for 6 hrs ......
Funnily enough the appendix thing went well ....... not a lot of moving about when you are driving .......
it was better than sitting on a couch in the house being sick ........ don't do the being sick thing very well lololol

BTW ........ fuel consumption on the gauge has been 27 mpg for ever, after fitting the new O2 sensors and a long trip, its now 28.5 mpg
 
This car has always looked stunning with its top on - happy memories of seeing it out on early spring runs
 
Gotta love a cross channel road jaunt :driving: i did clock your proposed itinerary & thought you'd do well to make it home in the early hours . Its not the roads its the eyes that won't stay open :cry: sometimes you just have to sleep meaning if no partner to share driving its downtime :(
Nice stopover at Beaconsfield :thumbsup: hard to enthuse over services but they do the lot very well
Wouldn't a ferry from Hull be easier for you to Holland :?
 
I quite often use the boats ....... only downside is the time involved and you travel on their schedule, not yours .......
Basically I went Edinburgh to Wervershoof (NL) in 13 plus hours, and arrived when I wanted to (9 am) ........ cant do that on a boat.

......... and more importantly, 1500 mile plus jaunt in the Zed was the "big smile on my face" option ...... and, on the boat, you are guaranteed to be parked alongside a 15 year old SUV full of out of control kids who think its quite normal to slam their doors into the side of yours with parents that say ........ so what ??? :rofl:
