its the last time im taking the zed to work when expecting snow. took me 30 min to de ice my car tonight. we didnt have snow up here in newcastle, it was more like hail which created a thick layer of sheet ice that wasnt coming off with anything i was throwing at it. ( i was spraying deicer that just run down the window without leaving a dent) :headbang: had to give up after after ten min and sat in the car to warm my hands up for round 2. well anyway after i started moving some of the loose stuff on the bonnet blew onto the windscreen so tried to use the wipers.. both went up, both went down... left went up left went down :( :(

pulled over and i can hear the motor running so somethings popped. guess its the same problem jimmypop had http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31569

anyone got a guide with pics/illustrations or a good walkthrough how to fix this ???

My mum took me on holiday to Whitley Bay when I was a sprog; she had family in Wallsend but we don't talk about that.....I've always intended to go back sometime to see me Auntie Ethel in Blythe but the poor old dear popped her clogs before I could. 8)

doen anyone know where the part numbers for the wiper unit are on realoem. had the car apart and the rod to the wiper has came loose. on the pasanger side it has a black plastic clip holding it on and i cant find the other one anywhere

Hi, spotted this thread last night when I was on night shift. Typed a reply which appeared to disappear on clicking submit then got called away so didn't have time to rewrite it!

Do you have a photo of the plastic clip? When I took mine apart, the strut from the wiper motor was loose from the wee strut attached to the driver's side wiper. On the bottom of the driver's side there was a wee metal pole with a black knuckle of metal/plastic on it which held the wiper motor strut secure. This should be able to fit over it if you use enough brute force or the right sort of tool. Sorted this about a month ago and not had any problems. No sign of a wee black plastic clip.

Hope this helps.

was too dark to get a picture, had to get the car back together in a hurry, stole this from sk93 thread

the green shows the rod and connector that have came apart. the blue shows the black plastic cap thing that has gone missing on the left.

does it seem stupid to you that the rod connects to the bottom of the bar. being a pilot,on my plane every screw and bolt is fixed from the top so even if the bolts come loose, they will stay in place. for something as important as wipers, you would have thought that bmw would have used that principle

EDIT. i found this, this looks like mine i think although i havent had the whole thing out

ive carried out a real bodge to fix it. had the unit out and it looks like the rubber bearing may have warn making it fall off so ive used a spacer and a earth magnet and a good healping of grease to hold it together.. seems to be working so i cant complain for now

well you have that sorted

I would use a watering can of hot water next time
it should shift any ice in the gubbins.
