:D Well said!

I too have owned a few BMW's and usually change cars every 2-3 years. At the moment I'm thinking this car could be a "keeper" because I also view it as a complete all round package. In a couple of years I might buy a cheap run-around car.

Yes, I have had quite a few new BM's and I find this time around it is a lot easier to get a very good discount on a new car, I could only save £3k on a discounted new car by buying a dealers demo car which for me is not worth it, I would rather have a new car :driving:

I tired to find sales figures for the MB SLK and could not find anything but would like to know how the "new" Z4 is selling in comparision... :scratchhead:

Well my mum had had 3 SLKs in a row over the last 9 years, she changed it for the new Z4 this year, and loves it in comparison.

The slk is starting to look very dated in comparison to the new Z4. It's never a car i particularly liked, too feminine IMO. When i got my first Z4 if was purely for the looks of the old Z4.. i changed it for the new one, as it looks equally as nice IMO, although more expensive, it just seems alot more car for the money.

Have to admit the forum here is a bit quiet for the new model.

I joined when I got mine having never been on here before. To be honest I found there is rather more action to be had at the zpost forum concerning the e89. Not that the answers to queries I have had here haven't been really helpful and informative, thanks all, just that there is less general chat about it.

There does seem to be a little bit of 'the old model is the best' hereabouts as well, not surprising, we all love our vehicles 8)

IMO your correct. The new model is quite a bit different, more up scale, softer for lack of a better word and IMO more SLR like which I believe is the target market of the new Z4. It's a different car. Not better or worse just different. I now better understand how the owners of the Z3 felt when the Z4 arrive on the scene. Bigger, more refined and not a proper roadster was a comment often heard by those of us with the new 2003 Z4. Our local chapter of ZSCCA is about a 50/50 mix of Z3's and Z4's. Those that have Z3's have no interest in moving on to the Z4. Hell, one of our members is looking to purchase a 2nd M roadster so he will always have one Z3 to drive while he is doing work on the other.... :driving:

Interesting there are currently only 3 Z4M's in our club but close to half of the Z3's are M roadsters.

All sounds perfectly reasonable WLH. I have no great experience of roadsters but can feel this difference between models reading the various threads.

I have to say for me the new e89 was the perfect choice and I am not ashamed to admit it. It is my only car and often has to travel long distances on less than desirable roads. The 'tourer' with a bit of fun thrown in is precisely what I was looking for, I guess I fall into that newly targeted demographic.. However I suspect the forum would be much the poorer if all the 'proper' roadster enthusiasts were to leave. Personally I like to get to know the workings of any quality item I purchase, and the information gained from you guys who really love their vehicles is fantastic.

One thing that does amuse me a little is the various threads where people are turning their new Z4s into much more 'muscular' looking cars. Great fun, but perhaps they should have bought something different in the first place?

Wish I was still living in the UK. Joining a local chapter would be great! I imagine you get a lot out of it.

Not quite so exclusive down South. I had a black one follow me along the A27 on Saturday and today on the backroads near Denmead a white one. Getting far too common :D

There just aren't that many out there yet. Especially here in the frozen wasteland called Western Canada. I don't think I saw any on the road last year except mine (for the 3 days I could drive it, LOL)

There was a comment earlier in the thread about Z3 owners disliking the new Z4's when thay came out.....it's true, I thought my Z3 30i was a real sports car compared to the new softened, underpowered, fancied up Z4. The only Z4 of any merit was an M roadster and I never saw one of those either. That's why I jumped to an M3, now I've seen the error of my ways and gone back to the only good z car ever made. The Z4 s35i with 7spd DCT.

Oops, that was my outside voice,
I'll duck now to avoid the slings and arrows as the fur flies in my direction.

Honest guys, I do like the older Z4's, the pretty Imola Red ones with the funny M for Michael on the side......
