Still dithering about selling my zed - put my details on WBAC website to see what the going rate is expecting some outlandish offer and it comes up with £7000 :o :o

Okay the mileage is just under 30k and it can be arguably described as pristine but WBAC don't know that as they haven't seen it yet - clearly pleased and tempted to go ahead

If they buy it for this what will they sell it for ? surely at least a grand more !

I know they try to knock people down on inspection but there is absolutely nothing that isn't as described - only a whole lot better than you would expect ! Have they made a mistake or are these early cars going up so much in value ?

TBH i think the knockdown days of WBAC are long gone & they now offer a reasonable figure that they then hope to make 10% on by moving your car into the trade who then offer your car up at 20% more than you received
Don't be put off by negative comments , i had a Touareg about 4 years ago that they offered such a crazy price for i couldn't refuse
Btw , the concept was thought up by the original owner of Carcraft in order to source more vehicles for his business rather than rely on trade in's

gov, please make up your mind

You have nothing to lose, so you can get them to have a look - or rather, do they come to the IoW?

Ive started seeing their portable units popping up in some local supermarket carparks :?
With my Touareg it was early Jan so high 4x4 demand & when i didn't follow up my appointemnt they sent a rep to my house on a Sunday morning 11am to inspect the car & secure the deal
Cost nothing to pursue Gov & could be a painfree way of moving on if that's the plan

Appointment can be booked at Cowes ( 5 miles away ) so as you say nothing to lose - I have 7 days to respond .

I posted earlier today about this. I got a really high valuation for mine as well but was worried re the mods and knocking the price down . Is your car OEM?

All OEM - haven't declared any damage because there isn't any - everything is original . I did read somewhere they are not keen on mods but this was some years ago - if that is the case all you need to do is put it back to OEM and sell the mods :D

Means removing the wheels etc, bit of a hassle as i don't have anywhere to store them!

I got quotes from them at the start of the year.... If you leave it 10 days they email back to requote and it gets higher!! Started £6500 ended up £6750for my old Z4.

But when i went there they knocked the proce down for marks, curbs, blemishes and even as it had eibachs!!

Still ended up being £6550 so above the original quote.... But in the end i px'd mine.

How did they know you had Eibachs?!

Did they take any money off for your CSL alloys?

I don't think they have been connected or owned by the same for a good few years ,
Carcraft reportedly been losing £8million a year which isn't a great concept for a business

Problem with those companies is that they need huge amount of space, which equates to massive business rates. The margins per car probably not that great + staff expenses - I can see where the model goes wrong.

When I was leasing my office building, the business rates were higher than my annual lease cost, it really baffles me sometimes how some companies can exist taking into account what they sell.

WBAC is now owned by BCA ( car auction)
Carcraft had a Management buyout last year, but the owner's kep the land and leased it to the new management.
And then Carcraft went pop on Thursday.
I'm guessing a new business looking very similar will pop up but without the buyout debts hanging over them.

Left it for a few weeks and they've now upped the price to £7205 - have booked an appointment for this Friday to see what they say - I have not declared any damage or marks because there simply aren't any - as they've not seen the car they are probably expecting to find something commensurate with an 11 year old car - everything is original and all the history tallies up - I did say the mileage was 30k when in fact it's nearer 29k . The only other thing is it's on a personal plate - I'm not letting that go but have the original plates in the boot - not sure how that will work .

I'll report back after Friday with what happened.

Your plate is an issue, you have not got a car you can sell at the moment unless you are prepared to lose the plate.

If you are thinking of selling, get the plate on retention as you can not sell the car otherwise.

You're probably right PVR - I'll speak to them tomorrow to see if they want to look at the car before I change the plate .

Changing the subject I see you have a VW Golf Clipper - as you know I am a VW fan - particularly classics. Can you show us some pics - I'm sure others on here would like to see - there's a white 83 1.8 GTI cabriolet for sale locally I'm tempted to look at - it's £4750 but looks pretty much in original good shape but I know little about these cars.

Does the valuation include the plate or did you do it without reg details?

Yes gave reg details as you have to - it's obvious to anyone it's a personal plate.
