Waxoyling inner wheel arch lip-

Lifer
Hi all -ive mentioned this before and i think it got the  -but i seem to remember someone saying on here that the wheel arch liners are not a tight fit where the lip is,so im thinking could the plastic move ever so slightly during driving causing it to rub the side of the metal lip and in time take the paint off?-thats why im thinking of prevention rather than cure?-any thoughts-thanks

Hey cheers Animal-its just that i spent quite a bit on my e46 treating rust (i know it was an older car) and professionall repainting that i dont want to go through all that again  -if the wheel liners do slightly rub wont this destroy the treated metal? Can water get between the plastic liner and metal lip?-sure looks like it could?(on mine anyway)

12 year anti corrosion warranty :) starting doing any work on the chassis you may void the warranty.

I must say my inclination would be not to worry about it (and I too had an E46 that got rusty wheel arches towards the end - although that was due to stone chips on the outside.

I think if you did want to do something about this (i.e. prevent the rubbing) I would use a few dabs of silicon sealant. You want the high modulus type that you seal baths with. You can get it in loads of colours. This will allow some movement but prevent rubbing and as long as you don't go mad you will still be able to remove the wheel arch liner.

I still wouldn't bother tho! If BMW are willing to accept the liability of such a long corrosion warranty they will have given this some consideration!
