Waxing

Thanks for a the advice. I have just bought the products required. Wanted to check the order of the black hole and da polisher. At the moment I am going to use da polish as first coat after the clay. Should da come before I use black hole?

Yup da then black hole

If you put anything on before polishing the polish will take it off

Clay
Polish with da
Black hole
Wax

When waxing is it best to use a small amount of wax work it in and do you normally do certain areas first ?

If your gonna buy a da anyway tou might aswell get a wax pad for that and apply it with the da, its much quicker

Still need to be buffed off by hand

I tend to wax a couple of pannels at a time, then buff of thw first one and work arround the car

To tell if the wax is ready to buff off use your finger and wipe thw wax on the pannel, if it smudges its not ready to come off if it wipes away its ready to be buffed off

A sealant is a man made wax, basically. They both do the same thing.

Absolutely no point whatsoever putting them both on. Thats what a detailer told me.

Most other detailers seem to disagree then. Sealant adds longer lasting protection, but doesn't get the shine that a wax does. Waxing on top of sealant adds a deeper shine. Absolutely every point in doing it

You can do it, but it is pointless from a protection point of view.

If you're gonna do it, make sure you do sealant before wax, as sealant won't stick to anything if the paintworks been waxed.

once my car is fully polished, you don't see a difference when the wax goes on! clean and perfect paint is what makes a car shine!

Polish your car and CHANGE THE BEHAVIOURS that cause it to get scratched and swirly - then you won't have to correct the paint again, just touch up small parts.

If you want your silver to shine do you polish or wax it? bingo! You polish it! if you want your jewellery to shine, so you polish it or wax it? bingo! You polish it.

SCRATCHES DONTS SHINE AS THE LIGHT WILL PING OFF IT! SMOOTH PAINT WILL SHINE! BINGO!

I can prove it time and time again! when my car is IMMACULATE no amount of wax will change the appearance!

Ok, so why (in your opinion) is there 100's of manufacturers of waxes offering different waxes?

Each wax offers something different according to them (aside from protection) but I'm assuming you believe their all lying?

I Agree with everything StevenH72 has said.

The reason you use a man made sealant like explained is that it last longer but a natural wax degrades so needs topping up.

Natural waxes don't last as long as described 2-3 months more like 6 - 8 weeks especially if bad weather salts and washing reg. So use sealant to protect then wax to bring the deep shine, then after washing add another layer of natural wax.

Polishing is obviously a very important stage in optimising a car's shine / appearance, but wax does add to the shine, making it appear deeper, it doesn't necessarily make it more reflective.

I'd agree there, I suppose reflection wasn't the best word to use.

A true wax has no colour or fillers and will not look any different, just add protection.

Take poorboys nattys blue - designed for dark cars. It's not a true wax, it has dark fillers in it!!!!

So would something like Swissvax Crystal Rock (£800) be classed as a true wax to you?


I can't imagine many people applying this sort of level of wax would be applying it to poorly prepared paintwork yet the write up clearly states it will give "a liquid like level of glossiness".

Amazing you had to get to the most expensive wax on the common market to find this!

Still, put it on an unpolished car and you've wasted that 800 quid because it won't shine!

Do some googling!
