itguy said:yep - sorry, should have been more descriptive - using menzerna diminishing polishes to get the swirls out.
would you wax straight on that then? just wondered as i've previously put a coat of the meggs 'step 2' polish then the 'step 3' wax.
itguy said:Fab, thanks. Not seen a wax pad before, need to look one out.

Bought my car in feb finally got round to polishing after reading a few posts here I went for the meguires 3 stage I did not have swirls so did not clay I found wd40 got rid of tar which was quite handy , I have only ever waxed before and nothing else , but after doing this I was blown away by the results , if the car looked as good as this when I bought it I would have probably had to pay a lot more ! I washed it used a mitt then microfibre clothes all new to me but I'm going by what recommendations I have found here and I'm a convert . Gonna do my daughters Mini Cooper next when I can lift my arm !
Cheers rog

clay bars do not get rid of swirls, they remove bits of tar and stuff that doesn't come off from a normal wash. it then gives you a clean and bare base to lay down the polish and wax.

yes... infact for me it looked a bit worse after the clay till i filled them in! but it was silky smooth and just rubbing your hand along the wing felt ace....
