Wax anyone ..

Showed it to swmbo. Two responses, "wtf, carnauba wax is used in food as a thickener, that's ridiculous" and "does it come with a man to put it on at that price"

Tapatalking...

Wow,both cars look great, I used PBS black hole and it does add something to the finish and a good wax adds to the depth to the shine, well done, very shiny 8) 8) 8)

Interesting topic, I am thinking of making a purchase for a more premium wax such as swissvax, would you say it's worthwhile spending the extra pennies??

I think buying a wax is very subjective, I have waxes ranging in price from £14 to £100, is the £100 wax better than the £14 wax? I feel it is, but others may not.Differnt waxes do different things, If you are thinking of spending a lot of money on a wax, look for samples, lots of people do them this gives you the opportunity to try before you decide.

In my experience, cheap waxes e.g. Turtle Wax, aren't very good. They can leave smears on your car etc. I find Meguiars Wax ok for my needs. I've always been sceptical of really expensive waxes, as I don't think the benefit for your car increases in proportion with the cost.

Just my tuppence worth of course

Im on the fence here. Over the years I have moved up through the wax ranges (cheap poduct to products such as Autoglym and Megs and now onto Dodo Juice, Chemical Guys products).

I noticed a significant step change each time in ease of use, durability, finish etc.

As a result I can only assume that this step change would continue into the £75+ waxes.

My question would be at what point would the quality go past the level that the human eye could take in?

Similar to audio equipment. Bose is better than Pioneer is better than Alba. But spending £`000's on audio equipment that needs specialist equipment to draw out that the quality is better because the untrained ear cannot distinguish?

I think this would apply to pots of wax that run into the high hundreds and thousands. Makes me wonder what is the point.......bragging rights maybe?

I think you are right, the Halfords type of wax is not great and there are better on the market for the same sort of price, as far as very expensive waxes are concerned there is a point where what ever difference it makes is so little that you must question why you would pay thousands for a wax, but you pays you're money etc. by the way Meguiars wax is the first wax I bought and I still like it

I tottaly agree on the wax expense debate.I cant tell you how many times i didnt complete the checkout procedure on the Swissvax website when thinking about buying the best of show wax.
I have tried all sorts of wax from autoglym to dodo purple haze to collinite 476 and just about everything in between   .
IMHO the collinite 476 takes some beating for shine and especially durability,my cars always get a few good coats of this at the end of the summer, but come spring time out comes the best of show,it just gives in my opinion a superior shine on both the cars i have just now, mind you it bloody well should at the price.
Must admit to loving the poorboys blackhole just now

40k for wax..refillable for life however, someone buy one and sell full pots to other members, get a refill... :D

Thank you for the replies I will be purchasing an expensive wax soon,it's just a decision on how much to spend and how much more of a shine will i gain?!! I mean is there that much difference between swissvax cheaper wax to there couple hundred pound concours wax?!

Not sure we helped much, but good luck with what ever you choose, when you do and put it on post some pics, really interested both what you buy and what it looks like on your Zed

well I intend on purchasing the polish beginning of july after I am back from holiday, i will post pics when I have the opportunity to polish the car with the machine buffer!

I recently detailed our two cars. On the Z4, I used products I had never tried before, Jeff's Werkstat. On the Solara, I used Rain X. Both were very easy to apply, and remove. Both provided a great shine, and resistance to water. Jeff's was much more expensive, but from all the research I've done on various boards like this one, Jeff's seems to be a favorite among enthusiasts, along with Zanio. From what I understand, Jeff's and Zanio last longer than most products, and produce a deep, wet-look shine. I've very pleased with Jeff's products. I used the Prime, first, then the Acrylic Jett.
