Waving to fellow Zeds in the wild

Had the Zed just over a year now and have noticed a distinct lack of acknowledgement from fellow Zed owners and wondered what other people's experiences have been. Last journey I enthusiastically  to five Zeds all of which just blanked me.

I previously owned a Smart Roadster which used to attract a few waves (even from no roadster drivers) but literally in 12 months of motoring I can recall 4 waves. :(

Am I doing something wrong?

I posted this same thread about 2months ago because I was also wondering what peoples views were on this. And honestly I only give a wave every now and then I've actually had more waves from people with there roofs down that aren't driving zeds.

Always give a thumbs up to any rag top with the roof down! Try changing your aftershave or underarm deodorant

I've given a few a flash (lights obviously :p) but not got one back, now I mostly watch closly ready to reply if I ever get a wave but never do!
Arrogant Bmw drivers

No different to the new breed of cyclist on rural roads. Head down and no acknowledgement to a fellow cyclist. My wife had a VW Beetle, 20-30 years ago, they would always acknowledge a fellow Beetle driver.

Sign of the times I'm afraid.

My uncle had the mazda eunos roadster years ago and we'd always pop the lights up to others and usually got one back!

I find waving to other drivers of the same car very strange.

Would you wave to another diesel Mondeo driver if you were driving one?

I've owned my Z for just nearly 2 months and had never considered acknowledging people driving the same car as me before. However, since owning the car and particularly since reading forum threads, thought I would give it a go. Perhaps naively thinking that's what z4 drivers generally did. I have seen countless Z's and not once got a wave or flash of the lights back. I see one lady nearly every morning on the way to work and flash her (lights not back-side) every morning. Every morning she just passes me stoney faced, I think she might have actually looked at me once but cant be sure. I will, however, persevere.

When out in Marmite last week I was heading back from a garage and passed an 03 Sterling Grey Z4 and decided to give a wave and the response was as follows...

then he went

then proceeded to

and eventually looked like this

i pulled into a car wash the other day (i was in a hurry i dont like to use them) and there was a black Z4 in front of me. when it pulled round there was a lovely blonde lady driving  we smiled at each other and acknowledged to each other that we have the same car. then i remembered the wife was sitting next to me. i dont think she liked the other Z4

I've previously posted about this.

I pass two in the mornings regularly now. Now I am not saying there are any links here or anything remotely sexist, I'm just telling it like it is.

The Montego blue one - She never nods, smiles, acknowledges or anything. I sat next to her at the roundabout for a good 10 seconds last week - nothing. I gave the hint of a smile and she looked at me like I was completely mental.

The black one - (N** BEX). Have waved, flashed on a couple of occassions - nothing at all.

That's why I am always so pleased when someone does nod or wave or give some hint that they've noticed you. Surely people aren't that obvlivious!

I've had my z for over a year and have not had one acknowledgement from any z's.
Been a biker for over 20 years and always get a nod (except from harley owners).

It's strange as people on here are friendly yet in the real world a miserable bunch!

Its one of those cars (like the Mini Cooper S i had before) where there are enthusiasts as well as muggles who just happen to drive them.

I found that you need to identify an enthusiast by "lowered stance", "coloured wheels", "mods", "roof down when its cold", "excessively shiny paintwork" etc and then you can risk a wave.

In nearly 2 years I've had one wave from a Ninja Z4 driver on M6 who I missed because he had stealthily snuck up on me and one from Z4M Coupe who I waved to first as he was Shiny and I've seen about in Tamworth a few times.

We must of seen 10-15 zeds during a 100 odd mile hoon about the countryside Sunday - Waved to them all, and not a single wave back (And more than 50% of the roadsters had the roof up - On the best day of the year, WTF is the point :| ). Conclusion: most Zed drivers (No one on hear of course) are either miserable gits or completley oblivious of whats going on around them!

Stu.

At least it is not just me - I was beginning to get a complex.

My Dad who drives an MGB roadster gets waved at by anything classic from Minis to TR7s. Very odd. Classic car owners seem to be much more friendly.

The other day we both went for a drive and as we were parking up seperately I saw this chap walk past the Zed then go and walk over to my Dad. Apparently he said "I prefer yours".

I think it's a rarity thing. Z roadsters aren't exactly rare cars. Whereas owners of classics / rarer models are more likely to wave to eachother as I guess they're more likely to be enthusiasts.

I dont see a lot of zs around really but what i notice is one or 2 will wave or flash but every z owner checks you out haha

who cares anyway ill flash them myself if i get no reply no worrys theyv seen me :D

True. To be fair though there are substantially more MGBs on the road than Z4M roadsters so not necessarily a rarity thing but almost certainly an enthusiast thing. Anyways just a bit of fun. I will continue to wave and if I get one back great. :D
